I injured my left rotatory cuff several years ago while snow sledding. I never took it in to have it looked at cause it never bothered me that much. Well last night I was doing squats at 145lb for 5x10. I felt fine after so I upped it to 150 for another 5x10 but after the second set I started feeling some tingling in my left arm. I finished the set but it was slightly numb after. It quickly went away while I rested for a minute or two. I dropped it to 5 reps to finish the session off but the tingling returns each time I finish the remaining sets.

I'm thinking the bar is sort of cutting of blood circulation to the arm and causing the tingling. I'm just using a rolled up towel for cushion. Or could it be something with the damaged rotatory cuff? I don't get this doing any chest or arm workouts.

Sounds like a nerve is being pressured when you put weight in that location. Could be a disk in your neck is swollen.

Where are you placing the bar? High on the traps or low on the "spine" of the shoulder blades?

Tingling is usually indicative of nerve dysfunction. In the squatting position, it doesn't have to be a compressed spinal nerve root in the neck. Very frequently, just getting your arms into position on the bar can caused excess neural tension due to your shoulder blade, shoulder, and arm position.

If you're worried about it and want to get it checked out, feel free to PM me (refer to my signature).

It is right at the base of the neck with some of the bar resting along the shoulders. It doesn't seem to occur when I do just one session so I guess I'll just keep at it til it starts and not continue further.

You try front squats? I like them better n e way, worth a try. If its hard still can use straps on the bar to help grip
