timing values 2 vs 4 dimms

Corsair was kind enough to mention the fact that installing 2 XMS kits of 1GB (2x512) reduces the timings from 2,3,3 to 2.5,3,3. I'm wondering if this loss is good compared to other manufacturers. Does anybody know that? Would such a degradation occur with any RAM when going from 2 to 4 dimms?

Also, I just found an article from 1.5 years ago mentioning that one should get registered memory if using more than 2 dimms. Is this still true?

Thanks

I know that motherboards only run memory at full speed when a max of 2 dimms are installed, any more and it will lower speed by alot, not worth it.
