Taken from PowerVR Revolution website:-

"When the new 23.11 Detonator drivers were released yesterday, a whole bunch of people started to notice problems with an "infinite loop error" when running Windows XP - some games also "exit" whenever they feel like your starting to get the upper hand. This problem will only happen on machines running a VIA Chipset (along with an NVidia card duh'), and is caused by a Memory Write Queue (MWQ) timer problem. In a nutshell the new drivers allow your NVidia card access to a larger portion of memory than all previous drivers did - this is also why we've been seeing some promising speed increases from the 23.11's. However, because of this larger memory access improvement, a timing issue has evolved around the RX55 memory register (MWQ) in the BIOS when it is left in a opened state."

Great post but how do we fix this? If I uninstall the new drivers and try to reinstall 21.81s it doesn't work anymore.

To be honest I don't know, there's talk of a patch but I don't know where to download it from, sorry!

Any comments from Geforce owners? That's pretty unusual, when you mention anything to do with nvidia you usually get comments from the same bunch but this time silence, why is that?

That's because this is old news and already been posted a dozen times.

FWIW, 23.11's work perfectly on my system - Shuttle AK31A (2e9 BIOS), 1.4GHz Athlon, Gainward GF3 Ti200/450, 1GB RAM (4x256), Vortex2, Enermax 431W PSU, WinXP Pro. Not a single problem. The CPU and memory are not overclocked. The graphics card is OC'd to 240/500 (vs. 175/400 stock). Did a clean install of XP, DID NOT install any VIA 4-in-1's or any other VIA drivers (except the ones that shipped with XP and were installed during setup, of course), popped the 23.11's in there, and presto - fast and stable. I'm happy with it, and you can bet I'm not gonna mess with it any further. At least until the 23.12's or whatever come out ;)

I had a lockup in Q3A online after installing the new 23.11 drivers, but didn't have them installed long enough to notice an "infinite loop error." The best solution right now for anyone having these problems is to go back to using an earlier driver set. As you might have guessed, NVIDIA is getting more aggressive with their drivers to stay competitive with ATi.
