Remember when you had to get up to change the channel on the TV because your dad told you to?

When helping take care of my late grandfather's estate in Michigan, I found an old mail-in order form for an add-on remote control device for televisions. You had to actually mount the device to the television, and it would manually turn the channel knob when you used the remote.

my mom had one on her computer at work... whenever i saw that, i was like, "what's this clunky thing for? how can you stand this?"

I remember the first color TV in our neighborhood, everybody gathered around and guaked. My dad says "that'll never catch on, too damned expensive". And only certain shows on a couple of channels were broadcast in color.

The first thing I remember was the NBC peacock followed by "The wonderful world of Disney" I was messmerized.

No way, our TV had a badass remote. It had FOUR BUTTONS!

My remote was corded. I think it had 5 buttons. Channel, volume and power. The only one labeled was power, and it was bright red IIRC.

Ours was cordless. IIRC, you turned the volume all the way down to turn it off, and up to turn it on.
