Time zone in Windows 8.1 changed automatically on me

This afternoon I noticed that the timezone in Windows 8.1 changed automatically to Pacific US time from Central US time as the clock went back 2 hours. I also had my CPU overclocked to 4 GHz with auto voltage. My CPU is a i7-4930k. Could that overclock on my CPU caused the automatic time zone change without my consent? Stress testing and gaming showed no issues at 4 GHz. I now have my CPU running at stocks settings. My CPU can't handle 4 GHz?

Why would the clock go back 2 hrs?
It's not your overclock and very doubtful that it's hardware related.

Pacific time zone is often the "default" time zone.

So, if you reset your Operating System or BIOS or something, the BIOS might revert to the default time zone, which could be Pacific.

You mentioned overclocking, but do you recall if you ever reset the computer somehow, to where you "Use Defaults" or some other default choice?

Well it happened when I went to the kitchen to eat lunch. 30 minutes later I came back to my bedroom where my PC is located and noticed the time on my PC went back 2 hours.

Maybe your motherboard battery has died prematurely (see if it's leaking white acid paste, or swollen or discolored) so the motherboard forgot itself.

I checked the battery and it looks normal. I'll just use a different time server in Windows to synchronize the clock. If my CMOS battery was dead wouldn't this clock change issue happen frequently and all the bios settings would be reset to default settings frequently?

I had the same thing happen a couple months ago. Same Central to Pacific change. Didn't think much about it and it hasn't happened again since.

I'll just keep using my motherboard then, if it's not the battery dying. I might also stay at 4 GHz on my 4930k but each time a weird issue comes up with my system I might think it's from overclocking when it might be a software issue. It's hard to differeniate between a software issue and a hardware issue if an issue is infrequent. A few weeks ago I thought that I overclocked my GPU too high that was causing another issue that I was having but it turned out to be a software issue because it happened also on another system that had nothing overclocked.

My CPU might not be able to handle 4 GHz. I was just playing Pac Man Championship DX and there was a weird game mode call "Unkown", which I thought was weird, in the Championship I table. I clicked on "Unkown" because that was only mode that showed was playable on that table and the game quit on me and I got kicked back to the desktop. I restarted the game and this time everything went normal. My 4930k was overclocked to 4 GHz at the time of this weird occurance. Maybe it's the overclock? I'm now back at stock settings on my CPU and the issue did not happen.
