Time Warner cable question

Ok, I have basic cable but want to know some of the pros and cons of upgrading to Digital Cable for the added $4.99-$5.99 a mth.

My tv is a 27inch JVC flat screen (I'art) which I purchased for $550.00 about 2 years ago. It's an above average tv and in line or better than a Sony Wega of the same year. Reg cable looks decent but I want to know if it's worth it to upgrade to digital.

I know the following of Digital Cable but would like to know anything else you can add that can convince me to switch. I really need people who know what they're talking about to comment here, not the average joe who thinks he's getting better quality because he pays extra money for something!

Pros:
1--- Sound Quality
2--- More available channels

Cons:
1--- Having to have a cable box (I hate this with a passion).... Until I get a Cable Card ready tv, I'm screwed here.
2--- Most people think it improves picture quality but I've read different (true/false?)

I currently pay about $52.00 monthly for BASIC cable. Yep, just for BASIC which is nuts! I would go satelite but we have many old oak trees which block the line of sight. I had two diff. companies out and they said it was impossible to go this route without a chainsaw **LOL**

Your JVC isn't better than a Sony.

I said it was in line or better than. You can check out the reviews yourself, not going to argue with the Sony fanboys. My tv model... AV-27F713
Don't ever think that Sony is always better because alot of times, even Toshiba beats them out in picture quality.

I would probably do it so you can recieve more channels.

When I had cable (Adelphia) there was also a slight improvement in picture quality with digital.

I didn't notice much of a picture difference when going from regular to digi cable. I channel surf a lot and the lag time between channels was too unbearable for me. Luckily, we had timewarner's digital service on a free 30 trial. Also, the idea of having to have a box at every tv in our house would be out of the question.
