Time Warner bandwidth caps arrive (updated)

Looks like I will never be using time warner again for internet if this happens. At least they are still in testing.

Yea they talked about this a while back. Wanna bet a lot of people, even those that don;t use much, will switch if they can to another provider.

ive never had an issue with TWC but 40GB cap on a 15mb connection is to low, and 5GB on the lowest for 35$ thats just moronic

between streaming media (legal) and normal internet use i can do 1 gig a day

this just punishes everyone

Great, I have Time Warner. Guess I could always go back to Fios if this happens, as long as this doesn't spread to other ISPs. Though, I don't see how Time Warner can remain competitive if they have caps when other ISPs do not.

As a RR customer, let me just say I love RR to start off with. By far the best internet access I have ever had at home.

Just the fact that they are doing this as a "test" makes me want to switch to another ISP, and I can tell you right now the day that this goes countrywide is the day I will not have RR. I would prefer throttling then capping personally if I had to choose one of the two, but I much prefer no restrictions. Itunes, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc all will eat 40gb/month up quite fast.

if people start dumping Time warner it won't spread. in fact TW will reverse it really quick.

Very little. Just assume 384 kbs and do the math from there.

That cap is way too small. They are obviously trying to make a lot more additional profit rather than just eliminate the issues concerning people who are downloading 24/7. That alone should be enough to make people want to switch.

I'm so tired of all this crap. I really wish we had a wide array of competition here. That is really the only answer us consumers need. From what I understand, it is working great for Japan.

I currently use Time Warner in the Kansas City area, I've been happy enough with them so far, but if this goes live here, I am immediately switching to Everest. No hesitation.

I have TW (thought not in Texas)
what I dont get is how they are going to charge you. I mean as soon as you hit 40GB you're going to start getting billed? No warning no nothing? Seems they'd have to send a notice that you are over your limit and will now be given a surcharge.

if they impose bandwidth caps they will likely reduce the monthly rates and charge for excessive bandwidth usage. if that happens, the average user will probably pay less for cable internet access.

Seems awfully low for caps. Guess we shouldnt have made such a fuss about packet shaping eh?

If Charter pulls this shit I'll switch to a telco.

Time to write some letters to TWC for those that use their service to register your discontent with that plan and your intention to switch to another provider if they move forward.

Bitching about it on ATOT does nothing, except use more bandwidth and grant them more money.

😕 40GB is HUGE!!!!! We service 200 employee corporations that only use 30GB/month. Turn off Bit Torrent and it won't be an issue.

I work for a big ISP- only .4% of our customers go over 10GB per month. The ones that do are impacting the network for other users, causing the need for more infrastructure and bandwidth. If those .4% are causing the other 99.6% slowness, would you expect an ISP to :

A) Charge higher fees to everyone
B) Make the heavy users pay more

I know which one seems fair to me.

I can go through the 40GB in a day just buy downloading HQ WoW kill videos. TW is run by a bunch of greedy douchebags.

This is a trial... so what would make them not impose this elsewhere? Overusage or underusage of the 40gb?

BTW, cable companies blow.

A guy in our office plays WoW every night---he's under 5GB/month.
