And who are you? Are you in charge of Microsoft? I highly doubt it. So what gives you the right to determine what is in their best interrests?

I think I do know. Microsoft produced some software. They decided on some rules to let you all use their software. You dont like them. boohoo. Like I said, get over it.

When you come to check my software you can look through my cd collection and my mp3 collection. Free software and purchased cds. Kind of a disappointment huh?

Woah, i thought this thread was done...ANYWAY, I am not overclocking that system, it has an Asus A7v with Athlon 1.3 ghz, GeForce 4 mx420, 256 MB RAM. I DO know what I am doing, by the way. Just, at the time, my brother was on, and he said it starting acting wierd so he just sort of restarted it (the RIGHT way), and when Windows came back up, each and every time, it would instantly log me out. When I tried to log back in, it logged me out right away, again. I probably am going to have to buy another copy of Windows just to be safe at this point, but I still think that product activation is wrong. It IS just a way for Microsoft to make money (am I to believe that Microsoft was making so little money off Windows that they had to do this?). There should be some sort of licensing where, as Mist said, they do it by the household. It is absolutely obsurd that I should have to buy two copies of the same exact thing for use by me alone.

Oh, and to the guy who said it ISN't a pain in the ass to reformat...It's not the actual reformat, but REINSTALLING everything, that takes up a ton of time. It is just really repetetive and annoying at this point.

Wow paying 150 dollars to the government in order watch TV? That's pretty bad they tax the radio waves.... I suppose that's what you get when you let your government run the TV stations, Just out of curriousity Is that for just antenna reception, or you get cable with that? or If you pay for cable do you have to pay the tv tax, too? Does the BBC have commercials on there TV channels? Do commercial channels get any of that money, do you have commercial channels...



BTW when you purchese the software from MS you buy the right to install the OS on a single PC, If you want to install it on another PC you have to buy the OS again. Also MS can change the liscensing agreement at will and by purchusing the software you agree to let MS inspect your computer over the internet to determine If you are using anything illegal. In fact you don't actually buy the software, just the right to use it, hell you don't realy even own the cd or any of the documents that come along with it. If you try to modify or examine the contents of the CD to closely you can go to jail or face some pretty heafty fines.

It's a binding legal agreement between you and MS that you agreed to by handing the check-out lady your credit card when you bought your copy of XP and installed it on you computer.The activation is simply a attempt on MS's part to make sure that you follow your legal agreement and to protect MS's financal intrests. Apperantly some people (likey you or for a time me, but not no more )have a hard time keeping their word and MS had to resort to making people call home to Big Brother to remind them of the terms of the customer/big boss agreements and to make it more than a slight inconvenience to violate the agreement.

If you don't like it don't use it. If you use XP and you don't feel your time is worth to much to learn anything else, then you should be greatfull for MS creating such a high quality and easy to use software at a price you find perfectly resonable. In addition, It is obviously worth it to you to keep having to call your corporate masters each and every time a install is fubar'd, because if it wasn't worth it you wouldn't be complaining about it now. You would simply stop using it.

What is the price of a simple phone call compared to the joy of leasuraly use of the internet, easy access to multimedia device and the opurtunity to spend unholy amounts of money on more software from MS?

Windows XP is running just fine and perfectly stable on this computer, and that's why I want it on the other rather than the terrible ME. I wouldn't mind going with another OS, there are just too many questions involving networking and compatibility.

Complain to the owner of the software you are using. Demand site licensing (which I think they might have). See what they give you.

Yo Drag, the tv license is to watch the tv, whether it be digital or terriestial. I think most or all goes to the BBC (who don't have adverts). It funds them and the BBC Radio Stations (who also don't have adverts). If you don't pay, people can come round to your house and remove the plug from your telly. It had to be renewned every year, but it is per house which is good, so it covers the 4 tv's in my house. Hell, I could have 40! Is a pain having to pay to watch telly, then pay cable to watch it again
