i have about 300 bucks to upgrade my system, but i would like to spend closer to 200.

current system:
mobo: msi k7t266
ram: 256 generic pc2100, 256 OC 2700
proc: xp 2000+ palomino
vid: PNY geforce 3 ti200
psu: antec tru power 430watt
cd roms: 52x liteon CD, 40x liteon cdrw, toshiba 16x dvd
case: generic (but i like it)
HS: Alpha 8045
hd: Seagate cheetah x15 15k rpm 36gb drive :) with lsi controller

i think thats it...

im thinking about getting an EPOX 8rda+, and a Tbred B 1700 or faster, that gives me about $150 more, and i need some suggestions on ram.

i will be ocing, and my main use for this computer is gaming.

Try getting a new mobo and graphics card, other than that you arent that bad.....

Why would you go DOWN from an XP2000 to an XP1700 ? The t-bred OC's a little better, but that would be a waste. The only thing that really needs an upgrade (and only if you are a 3d gamer) is the video card. $300 will get you a Radeon 9700 pro easy (maybe less) !

Definitely time to upgrade your video card. If you play a lot of games, that upgrade would single-handedly give you the biggest performance boost.

512 MB of RAM and a 2000+ is plenty right now; no sense in upgrading for only marginal performance benefits. I replaced my KT266A-based board with a KT400 a few months back ONLY because my Epox 8HKA+ died. The performance really isn't any different with the hardware I'm running, either.

Yup, no need for a new cpu right now. Most games will paly fine with that one. If I were you, I'd just upgrade that video card

If you MUST upgrade one part now get a 9700 Pro video card for 200-300 bux. If I were you I'd save up until I had $700 or so and build a new rig, much better way to spend the money. By the time you have that money you'll get more bang for your buck too. You can keep some stuff like your case and drives, etc. , just new mobo/cpu/video card/ram pretty much all you'd need.
