Time to upgrade that 2400mhz barton

Just got the go ahead to get a new cpu/board combo from the wifee for Christmas. Right now I am running a barton 2600 oc'ed to 2400mhz, BFG 6800gt OC, 1 gb Crucial 3200 value ram, Thermaltake 480 psu.
The price for the 3500 winchester right now is just ridiculous so it is out of the question but I am looking at the 3500 Newcastle. I am guessing that my ram would hold me back from getting the true benefit of the Winchester plus I can get the Newcastle now. Will probably pair it with the MSI Neo platinum.

Main question: Is my thinking correct or should I really wait for the Winchester(buying at the higher price is not an option)?

You dont need good ram to overclick, you can turn down the mem divider and run the mem slower than the FSB.

Instead of getting a 3500, it might make more sence to get a winchester 3200 (s939) and OC it, it should hit about the same speeds a 3500 will.

So are you saying I should wait till after the holidays when the Winchester chips will likely come down or go with the Newcastle? I have read that you can be a little more creative with the OC options on the A64's.
Not just fsb and multi anymore. I don't mind oc'ing to get something for nothing. I don't want to spend a lot more to be able to OC. I guess you would call me a moderate oc'er. Moreso than a novice but nothing like an extreme.

Don't get a newcastle 🙁 There is just no reason to, especially if you care about OC/speed

If you must have the 3500+ Winchester, wait out xmas and buy it afterwards. Otherwise get the 3000+ or 3200+ Winchester, which can clock really just as high if you get a nice chip. Overclocked something like 300-400mhz the Winchester will be running around 15% cooler at full load than the same newcastle - and be using less power.
