Before this topic fades, I have another question... Do you recommend that I get the original cards, meaning Nvidia.. Or an off brand such as EVGA or Galaxy? I know that if I want the best I need to get Nvidia, but pricewise it is the off brands. What do you guys suggest? For example: Galaxy GTS450

"Off brands"? What does that mean?

The only Nvidia cards available without a partner label are (overpriced) at BestBuy, and that's only a recent development on a limited range.

Either go with the best deal you can find, or with the best extras (warranty, game, etc) if those thing matter to you.

When I think of graphics cards, I think of the most know ( to myself ), they might not be "off brand" just to me it seems like it, sorry about that..

And thanks..

Right on, thank you... AND... :)... When it was said wait until next week the price will be dropped, any idea how much it will drop, I expect it to not be too significant, like $50, but if it's just a couple dollars and a nickel, I'll grab it now..

Im guessing a 10$ drop, but the cards that are releasing are going to be in the 200$+ range sooo its hard to say. it might not effect the cheaper cards much.

after looking closer at power consumption I would go with the 5750 over the gts450 since it uses over 40 watts less under load. performance is nearly identical between a gts450 and 5770 so its no compromise there.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure I stated my MAX Total Power on my PSU was 350W, I was incorrect... It is only 300W, will that affect the graphics card, 5750, I plan on purchasing?

I'd say you'll be ok. What are the amps on the 12volt+ rail?

Lol I'm confused on this now... Under DV Output it has all the + and - volts listed and then the amps to the right... Then from the +5.0V/22.0A & the +3.3V/17.0A is a line that leads to some reading where it says TOTAL 160W MAX. But at the bottom in bigger font it says TOTAL MAX POWER 300W

realistically it never even made 18 amps even when new in real real world conditions. now that it is sveral years old I can almost guarantee it probably can only produce about 12-13 amps in real world conditions. you should be okay with a 5750 since you have a low power cpu and very basic pc.

18amps seems right.

I would not take a chance with 18amps and a 5750. Sorry. It's just too dangerous to recommend. You could blow out your system.

cpu= 65 watts = 6 amps
5750= 85 watts = 7 amps
motherboards + fans+ harddrive= few amps
Thats cutting it real close.

Buy one of these for 45$. Its a good stable psu for the money.

and one of these hd5770's since you have a better power supply for a few bucks more.

Or just stick with the 5750.

Thank you. Also, I was looking at some CPUs, and their not near as expensive and some I've seen and what I thought; although, I did see an i7 for $999 :O... And, could I go more extreme if I went with an i5 or even an i3?

Happy is right that it would be borderline running a 5750 in there since that psu is quite old now. in fact I had edited my comment to say you might be actually pushing it but you had already quoted me so I removed it. lol

you are talking about a new mobo, ram and cpu there. :eek:

Not with your budget. :)

How much money do you have to spend.?

Well, enough to get what we've talked about, but if I put it back I could get an i3 or i5 in a couple weeks..
I think we need to get back to being practical here. if you upgrade the cpu, mobo and ram then it would be silly to use the Dell case, and old non sata hard drive. you are still going to need a new psu and you will also need a new copy of Windows since that one is likely tied to your Dell. basically you will be needing an entire pc from the ground up if you want an i3/i5 cpu.

Lol, this is what goes through my head everyday... I see all these parts in my work area and I think "I'd be better off just getting what I need to make this thing run a little better.." Then I think, "I should just build my own..." But, with my finances it's not going to happen, I'll end up procrastinating about it, and buy half the things I need and end up blowing it off...

I need someone like you to follow me around during the day and say that first sentence when needed, lol.. Thank you. You're correct.

what is the gpu that you have now? I see Happy talking about the 8300 but I did not see where you said that is what you actually had.
