Time to try IE 8?

Heard some instances with it being slow to open. IE7 with google toolbar have been working great for me. The only IE 8 feature I would want is the *porn-neutral* thing...but even that doesn't justify installing it. So anyway, have u been happy with it? And how custimizable is the interface? Right now I have the IE address bar, google toolbar and tab bar...would love to combine them into just two bars on the top.

I have IE8 installed and it works great, I find it much quicker than IE7 and has a cleaner interface than both IE7 and FF imo. I still use FF as my primary browser however, primarily due to awesome addons (case and point: mouse gestures).

Yeah - IE8 is a winner. I find it better than 7 - the colored tabs are nice. It is definitely more secure.

Went for it. Didn't like it. Coming back to IE7.

It's faster but just too much non-sense. Web slice? accelerator? compatibility mode? IE 7 doesn't have any and still works fine.

I am really a neat freak.

All are optional and can be turned off.

IE 8 has better performance and web standards support. Your loss.

Agreed. I was shocked at how much faster it rendered our sharepoint site.

While I mainly use Firefox, I love the quickness and responsiveness of IE7.

When I tried the beta of IE8 a few weeks ago, it seemed much slower than IE7. Has that been improved with the final version?

Absolutely! I turn off all the crap - even in IE7. Keep it simple. Security is better in 8.

Been looking through IE-8 post comments before updating from IE-7... The general consensus seems to be in favor of IE -8 being a winner... Security is being touted as better by MS... :light:

The only problem I've had with IE8 was all the entries Spybot and SpywareBlaster make in the Restricted Sites list. While it worked fine in IE7 it caused IE8 to load slow, and new tabs to open slow.

Blueweasel, have you ever used Spybot? There is a bit of registry work to clean up after it that will drastically speed IE8 up.

Not that anything could ever drag me from Opera, but IE8 is a big step up.

I was using IE8 and really liked the new features: color coded tabs, accellerators, smart type ahead.

But I ran into problems on 2 PCs and uninstalled it. Back to ie7 which is reliable but dull.

Main PC: IE8 would hang 2 times out of 3 when launching.
By default, I open 5 home tabs. Most of the time IE8 simply would freeze. I had to go into task manager and kill the program. This PC runs Vista. 4 GB memory. Overclocked e8400 running at 3.85 Ghz stable. I even set it back to default speed but that did not resolve the problem.

The other PC is a really old Thinkpad running XP with only 512 MB memory. IE7 would open 4 tabs and Windows would allocate about 450 MB memory. Slow but usable. IE8 would open the 4 tabs and allocate 620 MB memory. Super slow, not usable. I am now using Firefox 3 on this PC. Allocates around 380 MB launching 5 tabs. Opens fast.

The Accelerator is sweeeeet!!! You can add Newegg and eBay and search both just by highlighting text. Google too of coarse. Just click on 'find more acc.' and there are a bunch.

Hey all,

If you want to read about all the nifty features you can utilize in IE8, you should check out this article from PC Magazine: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2346881,00.asp .

If you are having trouble with recurring crashes or slow performance, you should try out the step-by-step guide on the Internet Explorer website that diagnoses your problems and points you in the right direction to go about solving them. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_intro and answer the questions about the symptoms that are affecting your browser by clicking on the corresponding links.

I hope this information helps you out!
