PA rapid withdrawal of all U.S. troops would hurt America's image and hand al Qaeda and other terror groups a propaganda victory that the United States is only a "paper tiger," CNN terrorism analyst Peter Bergen said.

Look, we all know that there will never be a bill passed with a withdrawal date. The problem is that Democrats bet the farm on it, or did they? So is this the beginning of a trend? Having major forces in the media provide an out? Are they floating a "trial balloon" or such?

Face it, politicians use the press to get some unfavorable ideas out there in the public before they, the politicians, announce the same. They do this to blunt the criticism. They use the press to condition the public to thinking a certain way. Amazingly too many people readily go along with it.

So what you're saying is Bush and his merry band of miscreants trapped us in a quagmire with no exit. You must be so proud.

By the way, here's a :cookie: for you incessant partisan trolling.

We lost face a loong time ago. Being a stubborn mule is a recipe for disaster and a sign of bad management in my opinion. What's the point of this thread?

Don't try and blame anyone but yourself and your heroes.

Bushco is the one that hurt America's image, period.

You all will be held accountable.

A  to everyone in P&N that holds people like the OP in this thread accountable everyday.

I realize this might be news to some people, but not everything is politics. In almost every situation, there is what the Republicans are saying, and what the Democrats are saying, but there is also reality...what's really going on. A lot of times that gets lost in the political noise, but sometimes one side or the other is actually RIGHT, regardless of the political crap being spewed around. Has it ever occurred to you that Mr. Bergen may have said that because it's TRUE?

Absoutely it's true. Unfortunately, it's also the lesser of 2 evils. Nothing good can be accomplished in Iraq, we need to cut our losses and get the hell out of there.

The spin from the rightwing is getting desperate. Where were all these dire warnings of possible outcomes prior to the invasion? What sort of analysis went into the decision making process? Any considerations at all as to the possibility of unintended consequences?

Not to mention the most important question of all- how can anybody trust the analytical skills and decision making processes of those who've been so wrong so many times?

They said the Iraqis were working on nukes, had wmd's, and links to Al Qaeda, too... They were wrong. Now they say Iraq will become a terrorist haven- what makes them right this time? New Ouija board?

The public has already made their decision- we want out of Iraq, and will deal with the real consequences of that down the road, whatever that reality happens to be, not what the prophets of boogeyman doom claim it might become...

Now it's time for Dems to consider the alternatives, to obfuscate, to dither, to stall... let the Bushistas get a taste of what happens to their global ambition and the revenue stream of their military industry pals when they're forced to reallocate funds to cover the Iraqi adventure. It really shouldn't interfere with the occupation, per se, just with everything else... let's see where their real priorities lie when it comes to actually supporting the troops or feeding the pigs at the trough...

In three months, the pigs will be threatening to eat their tenders, who will, in turn, become a lot more reasonable when dealing with the providers of pig feed...

I love how one of the main arguments used by the Republicans is 'Democrats know it isn't going to pass.' So we should oppose something because Bush refuses to sign it? We should only support bills that will easily pass Congress and the President? That list is short, I suppose we should oppose everything.

The generals are saying this war cannot be won by military means. The US military is on the breaking point, if not past the breaking point (quote Gen. Eaton). The US has no real idea what victory is, nor who their enemies are, nor does it understand it's own strengths and weaknesess.

This is a political war and the Bush administration is betting the farm that it will grind down the enemy with military means before the enemy grinds down the US military.

What happens when the US army is broken, the US treasury is broken, the US political system is broken, the US judiciary is broken? With broken minds leading the charge, who can expect the result to be anything but broken?
