Time to move your Google Code projects

Anybody still using Google Code? Every time I think everyone has moved to GitHub, I find a project or two still using it.

Well, Ars Technica reports that it's time to move those projects.

Google Code is to join the long list of Google projects that have been consigned to the dustbin of history. The open source project hosting service will no longer be accepting new project submissions as of today [March 12], will no longer be accepting updates to existing projects from August 24, and will be closed entirely on January 25, 2016.

Apparently there are tools to easily move your code to GitHub or SourceForge, among others.

Google says that it will allow tarballs of projects (including source code, issues lists, and wiki pages) to be downloaded through the end of 2016. After that, however, it seems that the projects will be no more.

The only projects I ever had in Google Code were some projects from college.

FYI, there is a google code to github migrator: https://code.google.com/export-to-github/

I've heard it doesn't work on really large projects though.

Ha! It's why I manage my own stuff and try to rely as little as possible on 3rd parties. Though honestly, I'm pretty surprised that they're pulling that.

I'm not, new Google-created projects have been hosted by GitHub for the last year or two.
