Well, after readnig John Stone's website I'm motivated to begin working out again. Not exactly out of shape, but would love to get really fit again. I'm not even quite sure why I'm posting this...

I'm starting this coming monday, whose with me!?

John just doesn't look very healthy and has made no real progress past the first 5 months. He lost the weight, yes, but he never put on enough muscle weight. There's no point in getting that "cut" (cut means low BF%, not muscle size) if all you have are skinny little Olive Oyl muscles to show for it.

I've seen drug addicts with the same body type. Plus, he gave himself a hernia.

I've mainly been motivated by his first 6 months of pictures, I think he looked a lot better then than he does now.

The only difference is he is a % or so higher in BF now than he was 7 months into his plan. He needs to increase his diet and start a REAL weight training program.

7 months in, he looked like a crack addict. Now he looks like a slightly more well fed crack addict.

6 feet and 150 is not that bad. you need to worry when you're 190 like me, and i've already lost 15 or so in the past 6 months

Well, I'm in shape, and I'm 6' 200 lbs (give or take 5 lbs). :p

Weight is really meaningless. My stats would make some think I'm fat if they had never seen me. But my BF is around 15% or so.

Yeah, I mean jesus... I'm 5'11" and about 200 lbs, and while I could be in better shape, I wouldn't want to lose much weight. Maybe drop it down to 190 and put on more muscle.

6'0" and 150 lbs sounds real skinny to me!

I was going to reco his site. It's a good one to start with. I visit it more than AT, since I don't visit AT at work, but I do JSF.

I agree. I think that this is partially because he's obsessed with not putting on fat again, and his calories are consistently so low that it's hard to gain much muscle, but also because after his initial muscle gain (because he did gain some), gains just slow right the hell down. I think his experience mirrors that of a lot of people - he's merely documented it better.

In any case the overall approach to weight loss prescribed by most on JSF is sound: 10X bodyweight in calories over 5-6 meals, all high in protein, with weights and cardio, and a cheat meal or a cheat day once a week. For the majority of people it works very well.

I've been working out at school. I'm in a gym class and we have a full gym that I have to work out in 36 times per semester.

I've been doing the elliptical machine. My legs are stronger and I don't get winded as easily, but I haven't lost any weight.

I'm in the process of getting into better shape myself. I used to just run, but my Kung Fu class has been building up the muscles in other areas, particularly my thighs. :)

I feel the same way. I worked out alone for years, never bothered me, but I went to the same gym and sort of meshed with a small group of high school football players who worked out every night, so I didn't feel like I was alone.
Now it's been a while since I've gone to a gym and I couldn't imagine going by myself. *sigh*

His lack of progress is due to his shoulder injury...otherwise he would have continued to bulk. Also, gains in size and strength plateau after the first couple of months. Jut b/c he didn't gain muscle doesn't mean he didn't gain STRENGTH. Too many idiots place emphasis on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy rather than myofibrillar hypertrophy...if you dont know what that is, google is your friend...in a nutshell sarcoplasmic is like ricing out a car, all show, not a lot of go.
