It's about time for a new phone. My contract with V runs up in 10 days. Now I see that V only does 2 year contracts so ill be stuck using the new phone way past the point of usability like I did my Touch Pro. I have a Samsung Fascinate ATM and while I love it, the cripples ram (292mb) is driving me insane even running cyanagen mod. I run alot of apps for work over wifi and 3g, I want something that doesn't constantly lock up when switching between more than 3idle apps. Other than the nexus Droid maxx what is coming now with the new 28nm. Is there anything worth waiting for and how long are we waiting for anything decent. I hate to buy now only to have the 28nm great battery life setup come out a month later and be stuck for 2 years. But if I have to wait until like December for anything half decent then ill have to go on and buy. Words of advice from AT?

Right now, the only two phones on Verizon worth mentioning are the Nexus and Razr Maxx. And if you don't need that massive batter in the Maxx, get the Nexus. Especially if you're used to installing custom ROMs, nothing else in Verizon's inventory matches the Nexus. For the moment, it also has the best screen and its SoC is still suitably high end.

Expect poor battery life with any LTE phone for now though, even using LTE heavily on the Maxx will drain it dead in under 6 hours.

Buy a phone off of craigslist so you can save your upgrade (and contract woes) for later. Plus, you will also be in a position to threaten leaving Verizon and hopefully get a better deal (even if you have every intention of staying).

However, I see no super cheap way out of this, other than sticking with your Fascinate for another couple of months.

I'll be in the same boat as the op in a few weeks. I'm sticking with my Dx, possibly with an extended battery from ebay. I don't want a nexus b/c of the battery and the lack of an SD slot, and I'm not getting another Moto phone. Maybe I'll just wait for the next nexus. I'm sure the SD situation won't change, but maybe the battery life will. (The Samsung GSIII might be tempting, but we'll see what happens.)

Agree. Noting worth waiting for right now on VZ. Galaxy Nexus and RAZR Max are the two best choices, I'd probably opt for the Nexus.

Unless you want to hold up until October. The Galaxy S3 will probably be released around that time, but if history is any indication, the US release of a Galaxy S phone will just be overshadowed by a new Nexus device and then we'll be right back here.

Waiting for the Nexus devices is always a crap shoot, doubly so on Verizon. The GNex is the only 'Nexus' device they've ever had, and it was delayed several months. Its anyone's guess whether they'll get a Nexus for JellyBean. Would love to see Google branded Nexus devices on all major US carriers in a simultaneous launch though.

I'd at least see what's going on at MWC and see if anything is given reasonable release dates. I'd hold out for something quad since your going to be chugging along at 2 years.

I'm in the same boat. Except my Fascinate doesn't have the problems yours seems to have. CM7 is just fine, but I do come across bugs every now and then. Overall though it runs just fine and with how busy I am right now, I wouldn't really have time to waste playing with a new phone anyway. So, I am just holding out, maybe I'll pick up a Nexus on the cheap this summer while I wait for the next big thing to come out.

So, is there any word on when the first 28nm phones will be available on Verizon?

So does anyone have a good synopsis of what's coming down the line. From what I could read we don't really have any solid answers on when 28nm phones are coming down the line.

Only thing I see coming down the line is the Samsug Galaxy III which is rumored for a June or July relase. On top of that Verizon will probably be late yet again to the game because they need time to turn if from an ICS quad core 2GB RAM phone to a 1/1.5GB ram dual core phone running 4.0 with no patching and plenty of the newest verizon apps :p.

I went ahead and get a Nexus which should get here today or tomorrow. Here was my thought process,
1. Do I have the extra cash on hand now? Yes.
2. Do I want to wait until late 2012 to get a new phone? No.
3. Will anything be out before late 2012 that would be worth getting? Not really. HTC has some new phones that will be out April/May, but I don't think they will be any better than the Nexus. SGSIII won't be out before August on VZW, you can be sure of that.
4. Is there anything the Nexus can't do that the SGSIII (probably only phone I would have waited for) will be able to do? Not really. It might be faster, but I would root/ROM both of them. All I basically do is text/email/call right now, so even apps aren't that big of an issue. I don't really play games.

So I went ahead and got the Nexus.

Time to renew my contract and I'm also comparing the Maxx and Nexus. I keep going back and forth after reading reviews and watching videos. The Maxx just seems to have better call quality and reception (which people tend to forget is most important in a phone), amazing battery life (which is always a complaint with Smartphones), and the overall screen resolution doesn't seem to be that far off to push me to the GNex. I've also heard the speaker is pretty weak on the Nexus in addition to the build quality being a bit cheaper. I'm all for some ICS! But it's not a deal-breaker considering it will be on the Maxx soon enough. Still need to hop on over to Verizon to really hold both and see which one stands out and meets my needs.

I'm leaning towards the maxx as well, but with some stuff coming up, I think I'm just going to wait through and see where it goes from here. Might just buy a new toy (transformer prime) for now.

If you are willing (and I understand why you may not be) to switch carriers, the Atrix 2 on AT&T is, IMO, an excellent choice. I suspect this phone will be the last I buy for the foreseeable future.

I have had the Razr, Rezound, and GN on Verizon recently. If I was gonna get a new phone today I'd get the Razr Maxx.

On Verizon the only phones I'd consider are the Nexus and the Maxx, as well as the next iPhone (later this year). It will most likely have LTE so if you wanted an iPhone I would definitely wait for the new one.

Is VZ even going to get the SGSIII ?

In any case, I'm the same type of user and the Gnex is perfect for me. Great display, smooth, fast, lots of options, nice form factor. I just wish the radios were better...

I'll be in the same boat here in a few months and I don't see anything in the pipeline that I would want more than a GNex, but much of that is because I'm a rootaholic and will probably flash a ton of custom ROMs til I find one I really like, and the GNex is the friendliest device for all that. Huge developers community for it, which I love.
