Time to buy a router...

Okay, so here's the deal. I'm fed up with Comcast right now with all their stupid antics. They tell me first that the new server after the transition only supports one IP addy until it's stable, but then the next person tells me a week later that my IP addy got erased. I need to know what everyone in Michigan is using for a router, how much trouble they had setting it up after the transition, and how many computers are hooked up to it. Thanks.

I live in Massachusetts, but I think it's safe to assume that ethernet here is the same as ethernet in Michigan. 🙂

The Linksys 4-port cable/dsl router seems pretty reliable Mine's been online for ten months now, and I've only had to reset it once. It's very easy to set up out of the box, and the web interface is pretty intuitive. And, if your dsl or cable modem is keyed to the MAC of a particular ethernet card, it's very easy to alter the MAC of the router via the web interface.

Somehow it's been my lucky day. I've got Comcast and haven't had any problems (except that there is no customer support.....

I use an SMC wireless router, which has performed admirably. My understanding is that the wired versions are just as good. I've also read good things about Maxgate but have not worked with them personally. SMC setup is a complete snap...if you read the excellent documentation. (I had a few initial problems but I was to blame, not the product.)

Good luck.
