To avoid poverty a woman is better off marrying a guy with just a HS diploma than being a college educated single mom.

I'm having trouble finding references to stonings during the Victorian Era.
Don't worry, Texashiker, a lot of other people have trouble realizing that correlation doesn't equal causation.
Also, what happened during that time frame was a lot of infanticide.

Woman tended to hide themselves and then kill or abandon babies as soon as they were born if they had a child out of wedlock.

Seems to me people in this thread are more concerned with posting insults rather than discussing the linked article in the opening post.
Wait...
Is Texashiker saying that birth control has caused more children to be born out of wedlock? I'm not sure he knows what birth control is used for.

Did you read the linked article in the opening post?
Factually the out of wedlock birth rate has increased with greater access to birth control
Every analysis requires a plausible causal mechanism. Can you explain to us the causal mechanism that has made the advent of birth control lead to more children being born out of wedlock?
We must ban ice cream immediately!
Is birth control 100% effective?
Do condoms break? I have a grandson thanks to a broken condom.
Do antibiotics interfere with the birth control pill?

Exactly! The difference between the two is simple: causation occurs when you like the person who is presenting the information, while correlation occurs when you dislike the person presenting the information.
Everyone who is jumping on the correlation vs. causation, do the exact same thing on a range of other topics.

Wait, your argument is that the failure rate for birth control accounts for more out of wedlock births than the existence of birth control prevents????
Wow, you're going to need some pretty impressive evidence to back that up. Let me guess, you have none.
Can you explain to us the causal mechanism that has made the advent of birth control lead to more children being born out of wedlock?
That happens today. In fact it was so common that laws were passed to make it so women could dump their babies consequence free at a hospital.
Honest question. How accurate do you think the records are for the 40's, 50's etc... given the way society viewed anyone who gave birth out of wedlock which lead to many people being shipped off and hidden who was pregnant, or children to be claimed to be born to the parents of the actual birth mother?
Dropping a child off legally at a police station, fire station, church, orphanage, or hospital isn't quite as bad a dropping them into rivers.
But the point remains, the good ol' days were anything but.
