time shares? Anyone...

Has anyone been to one of these dumb ass things. You sit for an hour or more while they try to sell you some time share and the only reason you are there is because you were promised a free trip to vegas or something if you would listen to their little speil.

We went on Saturday. We were thinking about it but at 9K (while do able) just to get in at the bottom was a little to much to choke down.

If you seem intrested your treated good, you act unintrested and your a lepper. Our sales girl was nice while we were thinking about it. She then sends over the "money guy" who sweet talked us aswell for 20 minutes. We talked about it some more, the money man came by again and then we talked some more then the money guy comes by and says "just say no and get it over with" So we did.. 🙂

They the girl comes back and says" You need to leave now so I can bring in my next customer" in a very snotty tone. Biatch.

What a waste, never again.:disgust:

We went to one on our honeymoon on Maui. Agreed to go and thought better of it soon after. Almost cancelled but went anyway.

We ended up buying a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. We stay at timeshares almost exclusively when we vacation now.

They really nickel and dime you to death on these things though. And we learned (too late) to NEVER buy from the developer. These things sell for $0.50 on the dollar in good times. So we spent too much. But we are happy with the purchase. We vacation regularly and stay in really nice accommodations. You have to use these things to get any value out of them.

Our Timeshare.

My parents have some time-sharing and have for a very long time. Whenever we used to vacation, we'd stay at one and I've always found them to be great. They are usually very nice places that end up coming out a lot cheaper than a nice hotel.

Just investigate the hell out of any potential place you want to buy. Only buy from properties owned by large reputable companies and try to get in through the resell market.

We're going to look into them in the future(about 5 years from now).

I like how Interval works. It's a timeshare exchange company. It lets you set up timeshares anywhere in the world in exchange for yours and a minimal "exchange" fee.

A cowork of mine has a timeshare set up through them, and they love it.

That's what my parents do. They do it through RCI

LOL, we did the same exact thing except on the Big Island. Our Timeshare

how was it a waste if you got a free trip to vegas and a $40 dinner?

I just hate sitting listening to crap for a few hours. I can always pay for a dinner. And the trip part, big deal. It's just the hotel, you still have to get there.

So we did get a few perks but not worth it to me.

I thought it was for us. We got a free snorkel cruise out on the Body Glove boat for listening to the Kona Hawaiian Village schpiel. When we go back to Hawaii next year, we're planning on doing the same thing to get some free stuff baby! Can you say...FREELOADER???

AmigaMan I'll tell ya, the Big Island is just too big for our tastes. We like to cruise around and see the sites and it's just too much driving. I didn't know what to think when we pulled out of the airport into the lava fields. We stayed Kona side if I remember correctly.

Been to the Big Island once. Maui 3 times. Kauai 5 times, and last year we tried Molokai. Never been to Oahu.

Kauai is our favorite. Always stayed in the Princeville area.

We vowed never to go to another Timeshare presentation again. We'll never buy that way again. We were thinking of picking up a cheapie on Kauai, Banyon Harbor. Just for trades.

got 4 of these for the price of 1 at retail, never buy from the time share promoter just sit through the presentation and get your gift (you definitely earned it) and say no thanks, even if you are interested. if you are interested go to the local real estate office and purchase a resale for literally pennies on the dollar. Try to buy peak period and buy one that is managed by a large management group like RCI. this way you can trade for other locations. this year were skiing in Park City and next year were off to Rome, with a few long weekends scheduled for Cabo San Lucas and Carlsbad. done right its a great way to vacation.

Hehe, my friend sells them here in Vegas for Hilton. They are only a good deal if you vacation all the time if you ask me. Once you buy them you have to pay maintenance fees and such.

He is one of those "closer" people you were talking about. (He could sell ketchup popsicles to a woman with white fur gloves.)

i have gone with a friends family to their timeshares, and they are really nice in my opinion. it does cost a bucn hto get, but you can like trade weeks with people that have timeshares in other places and stuff, so ou can really go most any popular location in the country.

also, when you are at them, all the visitors are really nice, and the people behind the desk are nice... its a very good atmosphere.

good, don't encourage those scum bags, time shares are a RIP OFF for most people, a few like them/use them enough, but for most its a waste of $

I have owned a timeshare for almost 10 years.
The atmosphere at our resort is great, the accomodations are great, everything you would need is there. Bring your own food or eat out everyday your choice. Sure you pay for the unit, and maintainance fees each year, when its paid off all you got are the fees and your good to go. Makes for a inexpensive vacation.

Average cost of a condo across the U.S.A? guessing around $200 a nite - go for 7 days at a shot it doesn't take long to pay of the unit price.

A couple of years ago we gave some friends a week at a resort in the Banff area, cost $129 for the exchange and $30 for the certificate for them to go. They spent 7 days there for $159

I agree to not buy from the developer as I and some others who have posted did, you will get a much better deal thru a private party or realtor.

My parents bought a timeshare in Breckenridge. Haven't had a chance to use it yet.

They got it from the promoter. I don't think they new about any other options... but I bet the value will increase. Time will tell whether or not they got ripped off.
