Time for some timeouts in the video forum

I know video is the cess pool of the tech forums, but can we have a little moderation every now and then?

Here's an example of the crap members start with each other including name calling.

As for my comments about "if you don't like the new nvidia control panel don't use it", perhaps you could try reading the original post and the preceding posts made by bfg10k and skooma (and no, you don't have to quote someone in order to reply to them on a forum before you ask).

Now, get off the forums, and back into your kindergarten class before the teacher misses you...

I don't know who either member is, but Gstanfor needs a time out and some time alone to ponder how to play with others.

That?s a great thread, all the usual suspects jumped on the band wagon, and a few new ones to boot. You just have to look at it as an opportunity to figure out who?s posts you should never bother reading.
And you have to admit, it?s kind of fun watching stupid people argue about something that?s not as important as what brand of toilet paper you use.

Note: No, I?m not suggesting that everyone who posted in that thread is stupid, just the few who were destroyed and didn?t notice it happening.

the moderators won't moderate Video because the Video forum is a cesspool of insults - it's simply too hard to moderate when every other post flames or otherwise denounces another maker/user/computer/game etc etc.

As an ATi fanboy I must say that was one of the weakest flames I've seen on Video. That post is quite standard for that forum, so unless the whole forum is going to be vacationed he doesn't deserve it.

if you give him a timeout then 5150joker needs one as well, for doing the same thing in other threads. i've just stopped going into that forum and visit other sites when i want info on video cards or lcds, because it's as bad as p&n at this point.

Guys take whatever happens in Video with a grain of salt. It isn't worth getting bent out of shape over. Every little kid and his brother go in there and write whatever they want. It isn't isolated to AT forums either. Any Video forums will have that (You have all the people who like to game and what not).

I used to go in there all the time, now i rarely go in there because a lot of the time (Save for a few EXCELLENT posters) you will only get crap.

Yes I agree with you that it is a two lane road and both are to blame in flame wars, but there is a big difference between flaming and losing your cool. Flame wars should not lead to blatant curse words at the drop of a hat. I will alter my usual posting habits and try to stay out of flame wars if you think that will help, but my suspicion is that the problem lies in the person droping the curse words. If I no longer am his aim someone else will become it. Just my $.02

if you bait someone and they flame you does it really matter what words they use? a flame is a flame, and some people have lower tolerances for that kinda crap.

True, it takes two to tango. However, what do you define as flamebait? Most of the headbuts I've had with Gstandfor is due to trying to understand what he's arguing or pointing out his flawed reasoning. If you're against flamebait, perhaps you should look at some of his recent posts:

The guy has been pretty offensive and provoking in general since the Dave Baumann of Beyond 3D joins ATI thread:

Once again, on his very first post he has already begun to start turmoil. (Also, if you really read that thread you'll really see how loose the guy can get and just how short his fuse is)

So, as far as flamebait goes, yeah, I think that it is just as wrong to post bait as it is to post attacks. Yet, look who's posting the bait.

I understand that following up with a corresponding attack isn't always the best way to handle it, but if I made stupid posts, I'd want someone to do the same.

He even sent me a PM telling me that I got reported to the mods but left out the fact that he did as well. I also tried to PM him back, but (go figure) he is ignoring me. I've never seen such immature tatics to try to get under someones skin. Personally, I don't ignore anyone through PM's, not even beggerking or Crusader. People always have something to say and who knows when it is or isn't beneficial to hear. I'm fine if someone wants to discuss something privately--no matter how big of CAPS they type in I still can't hear them yelling so I don't get frustrated with someone an ocean away at a computer. People just need to learn that when you make stupid comments, you are setting yourself up for some criticism. "Think before you speak".

LOL. That's one way to look at it; however, I don't do it for the intention to set him straight every time. There are things out there that others know and I don't, and the only way you learn those things is by questioning others' reasonings. I don't have "every post he has ever made" nor do I want to quote all of them. I believe Gstanfor does know somethings that can be useful, its just that he doesen't present them very often. For instance, I didn't know about a 512MB 7900GT, yet he showed that they exist. Even though he only knew about it because they were selling them in his part of the world, he still showed me something that I didn't know. I just think the guy has be reckless recently and has a very short fuse whenever someone even questions him any more.

Skip to the bottom if you don't have much time or get bored easily.

I don't think there is anything but a vacation in store for him but I also feel ithat all parties involved should get a "cool it" message from the friendly mod. He has a very short fuse yes but then so do some other members who get away scot free with alarming regularity. He does post some useful information, just like yourself and others which does make him less of a troll (while still one in cases).

I myself have had some "heated" arguements with the likes of 5150, Rollo etc so I have been in both the baiter & the flamers position. To me there are a lot of "closet fanatics" that came to the fore with Rollo's removal and they're trying to assert their "authority" over Video. Virtually every thread in Video get's turned into a Green v Red fiasco (even if it starts with the blue of Intel or Matrox).

I know what I can post like so i'm fortunate that my work gives me days at a time away from a PC so I can post in a reasonable manner.

In short, i'd say a 2 week vacation for Gstansfor is justified (albeit under mitigating circumstances).
