I'm selling part of my main Athlon system to a friend, so I'm using this opportunity to upgrade to an 800MHz FSB P4 system. I'm keeping optical drives, etc, but replacing mobo, processor, RAM, and hard drives. This is what I have planned so far:

Abit IC7-G
WD Raptor SATA (OS, pagefile, some apps)
Seagate 120GB SATA (Apps, scratch space)
2x512 Geil or Kingston PC3500DDR
P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB

Now, here's my dilemma: he wants my hardware sooner rather than later (which is fine), but that also means it puts me in a position to spend new-product prices for the Canterwood stuff and new P4. What do you think? I've thought about getting a 2.53GHz P4 for $190 and then getting the 3.0 when it drops in price (it's $500 right now). Do you think it will hit below $400 before the end of summer? I doubt it.

Also, I've been reading as much as I can about the Raptor, but still can't decide. Some people say one is awesome for the desktop. Others say it's not worth it, and an 8MB cache WD will beat it. Others say if you run 2 in RAID 0 it will smoke everything. Is it worth it at all at $150? Or would, say, just the 120GB SATA do me just as well?
