I am currently a freshman attending Virginia Tech and am in the Corps of Cadets. This week is what is known as "*** Week" which leads up to "*** Night" on friday. A *** is an upperclassmen who pretty much takes you under their wing and helps you out with any problems you may be having. Essentially, this whole week is an excuse for the upperclassmen to come into our rooms and just tear the sh!t out of them.

On to more important things. I want to try and catch those individuals who are tearing up my room. I have a web camera and will be putting it on my computer and hopefully I will see them in the act.

My question is: Is there anyway to guarantee that the camera will continue to record the footage? And what would be the size of a 4-5 hour video? I have a 100gb hard drive, so I don't think that will be a size. Is there any way to password protect a folder in case the people who rip up the room want to try and turn off and delete the file?

Thanks for your help.

Ok. does your webcamera detect motion? Have you thought what if they just turned the cam the other way?

something like this with motion detect would work

but this sounds like something that you could get in trouble for....either from the school (hidden camera doesn't sound good) or from the upperclassmen...

didn't you expect this kind of thing going there? hazing, etc is part of that type of school I would think

what are they doing exactly?

If that was my room, I'd just sit by the door until said perpetrator comes in and club them retarded with my tire iron.

Tell the dicipline board that you were scared for your life, that he broke into your room and you reached for the nearest thing you could have defended yourself with.... it just happened to be overly effective

My Logitech webcam has software that's triggered by motion, so you might check their website for it if you have a Logitech.

That might work. I came in last night and it was trashed. Covers ripped off bed, closets flung open and stuff scattered. My bed was in someone elses room. The reason that i think something is going to happen tomorrow night is b/c we have a football game against Boston College, and the upperclassmen get to leave early while freshman are required to stay.

Lol - wow. Old memories. Of course, back when I was in the Corps the secret was a little better kept. We had no idea about dykes (aka jakes), all we knew was that all hell was breaking loose and everything was coming down on the rats (freshman). They actually had the cops come in and "arrest" our 1st sgt. and the story was that some freshman had set him up on something as an excuse for the upperclassmen to harrass us even more. We were scared sh|tless.

In any case, for folks that have no idea WTF we're talking about, as a freshman your ***/jake is the only upperclassman you are allowed to fraternize with (ie. interact with them as a normal human being :p), or enjoy other priveleges if you were with your jake (no dragging the halls, etc.). They were basically your mentor - which meant anything from getting you booze & invites to parties to general advice/help, etc. I kept up with mine for a little while after graduation, but we eventually lost contact.

sounds pretty lame. I would set up caltrops and other random funny traps like paint bombs.
