I put together my 'puter last spring and have decided that I would upgrade it on a yearly basis. So far I've been pretty pleased with its performance.
A year into using it on a daily basis, I'd like to add a couple of additional uses to it.
Firstly I'd like to throw in a TV tuner so that I could watch and record shows. In addition I figured I'd get an additonal 40 gb HD. For the TV tuner I've heard that Leadtek makes a good card. I've heard of people having problems with the ATi TV Wonder VE under WinXP so I'm wary of getting it. Newegg has a TV tuner card from MSI thats considerably cheaper than the Leadtek but the reviews for it are horrible. For the HD I'd really like to get a Seagate since they are so quiet but with all the deals floating around the web for $1/GB, I think I'll have to settle for a second Maxtor or WD.
Secondly I'd like to start dabling with 3D apps such as Maya. There is a free version called Personal Learning Edition (PLE). The only prob is that minimium ram is 512mb, so I'd have to get an additional stick. According to the Inquirer prices are to fall through the floor with the upcoming Chinese New Year so I'll probably wait out.
So in total I'm hoping to spend about $150. Any recommendations for the parts?
