Time for me to upgrade vid cards?

I just upgraded my system some what.

Abit KT7-Raid
AMD Duron 600@900
Diamond Viper V770

I can't decide if I should upgrade or what card to get. I don't want to spend over 300 dollars. How would a geforce2 mx card be? Would it hold my system back or no?

P.S. I only play at 800x600 or 1024x768.

MX will be a step forward
i had a Creative TNT2ultra before on my 700E now got Asus V7700GTS

i couldnt believe how much faster my comp is now

Playing quake3 at 1280/32HQ (everything highest) with GTS is faster than playing 1024/16(everything highest except color = 16bit)

MX will brings you up to 1024/32HQ faster than your TNT2u at 1024/16

depends if u think going from 16bit to 32bit color is worth it or not

if not just wait for the GTS to drop price abit
the difference is signficant, even from a TNT2ultra
more from a TNT2

if you don't need high color deepness and resolution, I think a MX should do the job for you, at a great price.

however, if you wanna aim for high resolution and color deepness, MX is not enough. you may wanna consider a GTS (which is about doubling the price). but you get what you pay for.

and yeah, sure getting a MX would be better than your vid card now.

I have just upgraded to a Geforce2 MX (stop gap until NV20 comes along),anyway if you don`t mind staying at 1024*768 or below while playing games then you should be okay, but if you want 32 bit colour & higher resolutions then something like Geforce2 GTS would benefit your system, of course it`s all down to money.

Even if you wait for NV20, it will be a while before a new budget product comes out from nVidia, so now would be a good time to upgrade to a sub $150 card. If you buy leading edge, you might wanna wait a little longer, NV20 will make those who buy an ultra for $400-$500 feel really crappy.

how about a geforce 256 ddr-dvi, a little but more expensive than the mx but worth the money in my eyes. If you overclock the card, it will get speeds and scores very near the gts. I score 6000s with my 3d prophet ddr-dvi while my friend with a gts gets high 600s or low 7000s. I was quite frankly disappointed with the gts he got. Maybe it is just the creatve labs card that blows

I upgraded from a Viper 770 to a V5. Big difference. Yes, an MX would be very good for you. Best card for the price availalbe. I was considering one when i got my V5, but since the games I play most are UT, Diablo II, Blitz 2K, and Madden 99, and they are all optimized for Glide, I figured I'd go for the V5. MX's are very good cards though.
