At present I have Abit BE6-II version 1 MB(latest bios-xu) and Slot 1 P3 700 100mhz FSB.
512mb pc133 memory, Geforce 2 GTS 32mb(not overclocked). 33gig of harddisk

I want to upgrade I mainly play FPS, and have about £200 to spend. What can I get that would make a big difference?

The P3 700 has stock cooling on it and refuses to OC.
the memory is 2 x 256mb Infineon 133 cas 3(running at cas 2)

I have had a look at the geforce 3, but it is too much money at the moment, also I have considered the P3 1gig 133mhz fsb.

I have a buyer for the existing CPU who is offering me £100.

I need advice, should I get the CPU? Will I notice a difference(not just in benchmarks)?
What cooling should I get?

Please help :)

You should be able to get it to OC at *least* a little bit with stock HSF.

Looks like you've got a fine candidate for overclocking you should pursue.

have you tried dropping the memory down to Cas 3, a nice increase in clock speed would more than make up for the slight decrease in memory speed.

yeah, tried that. The mean thing just refuses to run stable. by that I mean posts, boots in to windows (98/98 2nd/ME) opens all device drivers and will let you navigate around but freezes after between 5 to 20 mins of some games (unreal T/mechwarrior 4/Quake TA)

What do you need 512MB of RAM for??? If this is in a Win98 machine, at least half of it is probably never being used at all! (Correct me if I'm wrong, people...)

And you don't think a P3 700 is enough?? Yeesh, I'd take it any day. ;) How cheap will you sell it to get a measely 300MHz more? Slot1 would go good with my BH6. :p

To be quite honest I don't need 512, but it got so cheap I could'nt refuse.
Any way once Win XP goes final I will probably upgrade, and it will love the elbow room :)

True a P3 700 isnt exactly slow but its pay day :p and the urges have come back.....

Besides I love overclocking and this bitch cpu just wont play ball.
