I just reformatted last Sunday night. I'd been running that install for about six month or so with no issues but then:

I turn off Zone Alarm
I forget to turn it back on
Hello blaster worm
Oh noes!! :Q
Computer starts acting quite strange

= Reformat.

I think it was the first time I actually remembered to back everything up too. Well, to be honest I thought I'd accidentally deleted all my e-mail but then remembered I'd started having outlook store them on another partition for when I do stupid stuff like that.

when upgrading it is a good idea to reformat... I take it you either don't reformat, or don't upgrade your computer often.

I'll say. Even with a break for a snack and walking the dog, I'm finished the install process. Now it's time for the 4-in-1s, Forceware, and chipset lovin' - all pre-burned on CD. :D

Wow, you too? I've currently got my notebook ghosting via USB to an external hard drive, and then I'm gonna do the ol' format + reinstall dance. Problem is, the notebook only does USB 1.1 (and no firewire) so its taking some time....

I'm just about finished moving everything over from my 80 and 60 GB drives to my new 200GB drive. One more partition to go through, then I need to ghost my system partition and format my old drives.

Maybe people change hardware all the time, but it baffles me as to why you guys don't just GHOST a pristine image and just take the 10 minutes to throw that image onto C: everytime you need to "reformat".

Even if you did change hardware, it would recognize it on boot... plug and pray, remember ?

Reformating shouldn't be a chore... it's only 1 partition. After you install all your must-have proggies, Ghost it this time, ya Canuck.

Why in the world do you need to reformat so much if you're using XP? Hopefully it's because you upgrade your MB's a lot. Otherwise you guys either need to be on some medication or stop sucking at using your computer so much that you need to reformat it constantly.

With Windows XP and Debian, you could go forever unless you completely hosed something.
