No ID3 tag DB, though...File tree browsing sucks.
Is your collection very messy? Personally I prefer directory structure sorting & browsing, but then my collection is meticulously organized.
Nope, rips go to artist/album subdirectories. Very organized. Just personal preference. Plus ID3 tags allow for neat things like searching by genre, rating, etc.

Thanks. I'm always wary of Archos after experience with their early products, but I'd be willing to give them a second chance. I'm reading the THG review now. I'm also somewhat considering the Samsung YH-999 PMC since it integrates with MCE2k5 so well. I just wish it had more storage. :|

I'm not that concerned about battery life. As long as it gets 10-14 hours, I'm happy. The Zen Touch is a consideration, but it's a little bigger than the others. It doesn't really offer anything outside of price and battery life that makes it stand out IMO. M3L also lacks ID3 database functionality, no?

check out RCA's offering- i've heard good things from them. Of that list, I would definitely choose the Cowon iAudio x5 simply based on features and size. You also might want to give the iRiver h20 a shot.

oh, definitely, under all circumstances, do NOT get the M3L or x5L! Those things are HUGE! stick with the original M3 or x5, or even the m5, which is a b/w version of the x5.

Because I don't like filetree browsing for music. It keeps the x5 out of the running unless they come out with updated firmware in the next month or so (purchase timeline). Honestly, how can a modern DAP not support ID3???

id3 tags enable you to index your files based on multiple categories. This makes searching much easier, faster, and more flexible. I use to think filetree was adequate as well until someone showed me an indexed iPod, and I started using id3 tags on my iRiver :)

because Cowon caters to the korean market where people don't use id3 :( try checking out www.dapreview.com <~ they seem to know a great deal about mp3 players.

hrm...actually, I was incorrect in my OP, the info on ID3 databasing was from iAudiophile's review, not DAPreview. And it doesn't look like it's coming any time soon, if ever. :|

Now that I've seen the 40GB Gigabeat at Buy.com for $350, I'm almost 100% sure that's what I'll get at the end of the month. Hopefully it'll be in stock by then and maybe even cheaper. :)

You mean the H10 20GB? I'd like more storage. It is nice though. I also briefly considered the H300, my friend has one...I wasn't too impressed.

I'm looking at the RCA Lyra offerings now...man that tiny 5GB player they have looks sweet. I don't see any 30GB+ players on their site though... :(

Anyone else have any recommendations besides what has been mentioned?

Requirements are:

>20GB storage
WMA support (Janus DRM support is a plus)
Not too big
Color screen is good, not a dealbreaker though
USB Mass storage would be nice, also not a dealbreaker

wow i have to say, i didnt like the gigabeat initially but im starting to like it more and more now. i notice it has a touchpad. thought it was just a cross shaped button. might just have to get a sexy black one for myself.
edit:
best price i could get on a black 20gb was $306 shipped not bad, but signifigantly higher than i paid for my karma($177 shipped)

After some searching, I've found it doesn't do on the fly playlists, and I'm not sure about the second. No clue about the gap, either. I'd ask in the mygigabeat forum, Tomas seems to be happy to test anything out you may ask. Hopefully by the end of the month, Toshiba should be in full swing selling these suckers in the US and we'll see more reviews and in-depth info on them.

Here's some great pics of the F20 and a comparison with the iPod (Japanese link).

I just played with the GMini 400 at DataVision. I'm impressed..the screen is great, it's TINY, and the build quality is much better than their previous products. If only it had more space and the menu system wasn't so damn bad. I couldn't even figure out how to turn the damn thing off!
