Eleven out of thirty employees out with the flu today and still waiting to hear from a few more.

How many of your 30 employees received the flu shot? Of the ones sick, how many received the flu shot?

We had "free" flu shots offered at the office last October. I think at least half the employees got them. I know some of the ones who are out got the shot and some didn't. Everyone who is still here got the shot.

Oh crap, one of the desease bags just came in. <Cough, cough, hack> "I think I'm good 'til noon then I'll head home to rest." The guy talks like he ate a bowl of cat litter for breakfast.

F$%# You!

I think a hazmat suit becomes appropriate work attire at this point.

No kidding, what an arse.

I struggle with making myself stay home when I'm sick. Granted, it's been years since I've had the full-on flu, but I've gone to work with a cold plenty of times when I probably should be staying at home. I guess I just hate feeling like I'm letting down the others on my team that have to pick up my slack when I'm out.

Like earlier this month when I took a week off work, at the same time, my sister (who is also my nextdoor neighbor) was sick with the flu. I avoided her at all costs because the last thing I'd want to do after coming back from a week's vacation is to tell the others that I'm now going to be out sick.

This week we're working 3 men short. I haven't been paged for any calls so far this morning, but I'm bracing myself. When we're this thinly staffed, it doesn't take much for things to get out of control quickly. If I were to have a cold right now I'd have a tough time telling the others that I can't go out to take calls.

At least the people that I encounter at work are almost always wearing lab coats and rubber gloves. :whiste:

I have been obsessive about it since last month as I work in one of the best petri dishes around, namely public schools. Anytime I return to my office from working on something out comes the hand sanitizer, the stuff has sucked every scintilla of moisture from my hands. :(

Pretty much this. If I wake up for work and feel sick, I mix up a cocktail of over the counter drugs that stop any running nose, cough, headache etc... I can usually tough it out but still be sick on the inside with minimal external symptoms.

It takes me really feeling sick to stay home.

after being sick all weekend, I woke up feeling great today... but about halfway through my commute it hit me like a ton of bricks again.

but I'm by myself in my cubicle and I'm trying to stay out of the common areas.

3/5 in our department were out last week. But they all came to work sick before being sent home.

And we don't even have to use PTO for sick days.

I've been tasked with doing a company meet and greet thing at the mineral show today with 15,000 attendees expected. Should I post signs instructing folks to keep their leperous children in the car? Would WD-40 and a lighter work? So far I've managed to avoid the flu this year. Maybe continuous incendiary artillery barrage raining down on the parking lot would work. I bet flu virus is killed by molten asphalt.

as a diabetic i'm scared to get the flu.

Out of curiosity, does it make the symptoms worse or have other risks?

I've lucked out and not had the flu in several years. It seems to going around my office as well though. And THANK GOD neither of the kids have caught it, dealing with that is worse than me having it myself!
