Time fixation/anxiety

I'm one of those, on time is late, early is on time people. The problem is I can annoy myself with worrying about time.

For example I work at 11:30am today and I've been up since about 7:30am. I don't need to leave until 10:30am (and even that's leaving earlier than truly necessary).

During this three hour time frame I am constantly checking the clock and sometimes make myself overly anxious even though I know I have plenty of time and it's very likely I'll be late for any reason.

Anyone else do this? I think I just need a chill pill or something.

I'm the same way, but I have social anxiety disorder, so I'm anxious about a lot of things.

What drives me nuts is that my wife is the exact opposite, we are late for everything, so while I am waiting for her to get ready, I'm pacing back and forth chewing on my fingernails and checking the clock every few minutes.

I HATE this about myself. If I have a 7:30am meeting, I'll wake up at 5:00, 5:15, 5:45, 6:20, 6:35 and 6:45. Then I'm exhausted.

Sometimes I'll wake up before my alarm goes off and I'll be convinced that my alarm is somehow broken and I'm already running late. The process of getting up to check my alarm (I keep it far away to force me to get out of bed) wakes me up enough that it's impossible to fall back asleep. I usually miss out on 90 minutes of sleep because of this.

I commend the apparent honesty posted within this thread. I always assumed that everyone who posted within ATOT was perfect.

BTW OP, being on time can be considered a sign of respect. Something we need more of ...

So what if you - just a hypothetical question, mind you - took away all time-telling devices - clocks, watches, etc. one day?

I'm certainly not one of the people that's always on time - it's pretty much guaranteed that it is the opposite - so if only I could siphon off your timeliness . . ..

Pretty close yes. I'm getting nervous pushing the time table right now. Still have to shower.

The last thing I want to be late to is work, that's certainly a respect issue. I've seen the people who just don't care.

Not sure what I would do without time telling device as that would be impossible. But to try and be hypothetical I'd be even earlier, like 3 hours early just in case.

Pretty sums up my life. I do this every morning. Wake up at 4:30-5:00, alarm is set for 5:30. I don't even remember the last time my alarm went off. I am always early. The other thing I do, is set the clock on my alarm clock 20 minutes ahead.

I'm the same way, if I know I have to be somewhere for a certain time, I can't do anything meanwhile. I basically sit and wait. It's like when I need to go to a wedding or something, even though it only may start at like 4:00pm lets say, then that day I wont do anything such as yard work because I know I have to be somewhere that day.

I am exactly the same!
When I worked, I allowed myself 30 minute extra (to be 30 min. early!) drive time.
I was so obsessive about this, that I even timed my drive.
If it typically took 90 minutes to get to the shop, and I was running much over 5 min. beyond that, I would get annoyed!
Even had landmarks & knew what time I should be at each one, if I wasn't "on time", I would try to make up for it by speeding up.
