Time and space are modes by which we think and not conditions in which we live - Einstein.

Einstein explained time is not a tangible object, but a human construct. Time only exists in our minds so that everything does not happen at once. Math is yet another formal language that we use to communicate these possibilities using our own intellect and insight weather it be a malleable or fixed theory of time. Therefore science is based off or limited to our assumptions, perceptions, and theories. Thus our own perceptions limit our abilities of explanation to physics.

The true riddle of the equation then is: what is real and what time is it?

Time is not a human construct. A second, a minute, and a hour are human constructs. They describe time for humans in specific increments. Time itself is the expansion of space and the motions of particles, and it exists regardless of whatever arbitrary increment is ascribed to those motions.

You think that's wacky? Go read Wikipedia's entire article on the Ladder Paradox, then read the one on the Relativity of Simultaneity. Then, consider that this stuff was initially worked out by people around the turn of the last century, when the aether was still a legitimate scientific concept. If you can do that without WTFing at least once I will kneel to you as the one true god.
