Timbre Matching Speakers

Actually I know why so don't bother answering 😉 That was to get more people check the thread and respond to my real question because I know people just love to jump on the easy questions.

I have a set of Polk R30's as my front LR's. Polk recommends using a CSi20 as the center channel, but they're discontinued and not readily available (flea-bay included).

How noticable do you think a current model Polk center channel (CS1, CSi3, CS2) would differ from the CSi20?

Good luck. Same thing happened to me with some JBL speakers. And no I doubt they will be as good, but you can always try them any way. The difference really isn't as noticeable if you stick with the same brand, it doesn't always have to be the same line.

AMDZen, that's kind of what I was thinking--sticking with the same manufacturer isn't going to be as noticeable.

Or you could get a bookshelf speaker and put it on its side. (If it's far enough away from a display that needs magnetic sheilding)

It looks like the R20s have the same driver/tweeter as thr R30s so that would probably be the best choice if you want to go that route.

As for the other centers, I think they would be fine too. I mean the one they recommend doesn't even have the same driver size as the R30s (or the same crossover I'd imagine due to this... and that's really one of the things you're looking for).

And would cost at least 5x as much as I have paid for this home theater setup. For a LONG time (like the past 6 years) I've wanted to get a complete system based on Mirage speakers but the family CEO won't let me spend that much.

If you look around, they can sometimes be had for cheap

True, but they're usually sold without a warranty. The Polks I've just recently purchased all come with a 5-year warranty.
