Steam was released in 2004. My steam account was created in November 2004, the day half-life 2 was released. Some early adopters of steam created their accounts as early as 2003.

Steam for mac was released in May, 2010 - http://store.steampowered.com/news/3818/

That is what, around 5 1/2, almost 6 years between the PC release of steam and the Mac release?

Um...ok???

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything that anybody wrote. The guy said "STEAM has been out for awhile on Mac", which, you just showed, is true. It has been out for 2 years now, which is "awhile"

Furthermore, you just answered your own previous post from just a few hours before:

Now that steve jobs is out of the way, maybe apple wants to bring steam to the mac OS?

to which a few hours later you write...

He's a troll, just ignore him. He's already wasted enough of your time and that's exactly what he wants.

No idea what this means, i doubt a buyout is in the works, but beyond that who knows. A visit from the ceo has to have some significance, if it were something mundane i think they would just send a genius bar type or one of their eunuchs. Maybe apple wants to use steam tech for some unknown reason, maybe they want valve to consult on a new mac initiative.

just looking for someone else to sue--Hoping that since no one outside of the PC Gaming world has any clue what Valve or Steam is, the world will just ignore Apple's shenanigans?

Maybe he's just a fan? If I was in his position I'd take little trips to different companies I'm a fan of too.

If Apple buys out Steam, I can seriously say I will never play a game again in my life.

What I think it actually is though, is probably an attempt to bring Steam into the iPad platform...which really doesn't make any sense because why would they want competition for their own app store...

Who knows...

Relax he was just their to muscle Gabe over some copyright infringement issues and some missing donuts.

Or maybe Episode 3 is going to be a Mac exclusive?

Why did it take so long for steam to be ported to the mac?

No, I am not trolling. If what I posted is incorrect, please say so.

In the entire lifespan of Steam, it has only recently been ported to mac. 2 years out of almost 9 - 10 years is not that long of a period.

"Why" did it take so long for steam to be ported to mac? That is what I want to know. And I figure the answer to that question is why Tim Cook visited Valve.

The visit either had something to do with Valve titles being available through itunes store, or making more games on steam available to the mac.

Maybe Tim Cook wants to use Valve as a leverage point to force developers to port games to the mac?

Game developers would port games to your toaster if they thought they could make money. Apple is low on the priority list for porting games because they never gave them high priority themselves until recently.

The fact is you claimed steam was not on Mac OS yet. Thats what brought this up. You were wrong, don't try to change your position afterwards and act like the first comment was never made.

As for why it took a while.

1: Steam was not a huge hit until a few years after it was released.
2: When steam came out Macs were PPC, which made porting games very expensive. They are now x86, which makes porting games much easier.
2: Apple's Mac sales have skyrocketed in the last few years, making it worth investing money into.

Your first post claims that maybe Tim Cook was at valve to "bring steam to the mac OS", which is silly since it has already been out for 2 years. Then you claim that maybe Tim Cook went there to ask why, two years ago, they released steam for mac, 6 years after PC? That seems like a ridiculous proposition.

You're just backpedaling now. Just admit you didnt know steam was on mac. :colbert:

I guess I should have said something like "to bring more games on steam to the mac".

Lets see, I have been a member of steam since 2004, and have been on the steam forums for about 5 years, and have "somehow" totally overlooked steam and certain games being on the mac. The steam stats page even has its own stats for mac. I have linked to steam stats several times,,,,,. The steam forums even has its own mac section,,, but somehow I overlooked all of this.

And "somehow" you claim that I did not know steam had been ported for the mac.

I misspoke, get over it.

1 - regardless if steam was a hit or not, you had to have it to play counter-strike source and half-life 2. If you were a valve fan, you got on steam early.

2 - mac started to switch to the x86 in late 2006.

3 - and that is probably why tim was at valve.

First off, no one gives a steaming pile about your "STEAM stats" or when you joined STEAM. You post that shit in every thread, no one cares. GTFO already. Plenty of people bought Half Life 2 when it was released, I was one of them and therefore, have been with STEAM since 2004. I don't go around every thread trying to enlarge my e-Peen by 'bragging' about how long I've had STEAM. It's not impressive, it doesn't magically make the drivel you type any more meaningful. You didn't misspeak. You clearly had no idea what you were talking about, got called on it, and now are trying to back pedal.
