Berners-Lee told the Guardian earlier this year that the government should abandon the proposals, calling them "a destruction of human rights" and warning that "the amount of control you have over somebody if you can monitor internet activity is amazing."
And those who want this monitoring to be implemented know this all too well.

Eventually the internet will have an off switch, I'm sure. It's just a matter of time before the government has immense control over the internet.

And you've already got a few companies that control substantial portions of Internet's backbone networks. Talk to the owners, make it worth their while, and I'm sure there could be some strategic filtering put in place. People are quite pliable.

Dems like Obama keep trying to control the net and tell us we can't download movies off pirate bay. Nuts to him, but you won't all be laughing when Skynet infects the internet with a virus that ends all forms of communication in the world, then sets up shop in the only place appropriate; Liberal strong hold of the world, San Fransisco.
