TightVNC versus RealVNC

Which is better?

TightVNC was branched off the original VNC (RealVNC). So which one is faster? Which one easier to use?

Can you give me a few details why you think so?

I use ultra VNC also. It is great for transferring files, and has a bunch more options that regular VNC. You should just download it and give it a try.

Let's see, faster screen updates, especially for 2K/XP, file transfer, chat, and currently being developed and improved. If that's not enough reasons, I suggest you stick with one of the others. 🙂

I Vote for Ultra@VNC too.

Easy to deploy, very easy to use, has what is needed for Desktop Control, and File Transfer.

Workable (with some patient) even under DialUp.

All you need is to make sure that Port 5900 is open through the Firewall and the Router of the Remote (Host) computer.

However for security purpose I would suggest changing the Default port to another one since 5900 is too much known and scanned by ?The Scan addicted?.

it has my vote too. We use it here on our Win2k pro boxes that we need to get to, and its as fast as the XP remote desktop clients we use for our XP pro boxes.

I just compared the 3, and so far I think TightVNC is the best for me. RealVNC was nice and simple, but the refreshes were kind of flaky. TightVNC smoothed out the refreshes to make it a bit more consistent. When I tested UltraVNC, there were definitely a lot more features but in terms of performance, I didn't see any different compared to Tight. Also Tight has been worked on a little more, Ultra is still in RC phase.

thanks!

When I make the initial configuration, or make modifications thereafter, where does the config get stored? In a file? In the registry?
