Tight VNC to connect to Linux?

Thought I would revive my wife's 12 year old laptop with Linux - Cinnamon. I use tightvnc to connect to the computers on my network. Works great. Is there a way to use it to connect to Cinnamon?
TightVNC for Linux is from 2009, a bit dated. Is there a compatible program.

Figured it out. Had to install vino-server, and then many configuration changes, and finally, try several commands from google, mostly incorrect, to get it to run on startup. Took about 1.5 hours.

Easy to see why most stick with windows.

What was the end goal? If it's file exchange, I think there's probably a better way to do it than vnc.

The end goal was just being able to set it up and configure it remotely. A simple 2 minute task in windows. To be able to "view" the desktop. I hate laptop keyboards, and little screens.

Mostly a test run for other laptops for friends and family. You know, those that are too cheap to buy a new one. And my wife will have a spare if hers fails (2023 model) which is unlikely. Or now I can give it away, rather than create more e-waste.

I've used linux at work, but never with a GUI, just command line. We used putty for access. Obviously that won't work for people that are used to windows.
