Being gay is a big taboo in the miniority communities around here. Throw in your religious whites, and there you go.

The point, My Dear Sir, is that without the Mormon asshole sponsor and Mormon money, it would not have been a ballot measure. Now it's time for revenge.

Yes but it should have automatically gone on the ballot once a judge overturned the first one we passed.

If you have any knowledge of the CA court system, it is just going to get overturned anyway by a lefty judge.

This issue I happen to agree with the lefty judge. But normally, I am not for a judge striking down a vote of the people.

LMFAO the judges on the Cal Supreme Court are not lefty. They are conservative judges appointed by Arnold and other republicans.

BINGO

Suck it up Utah, you will have a country against you now.

You do understand that pretty much every other state that has voted on an issue like this has passed it?

Our tolerance of homosexuals lags behind our tolerance of race.

How dare he say "Our".

Bigotry is anti-American.

If you don't leave on your own you will be driven out of the country just like the British were.

That I guarantee.

I'm so sick of the 'liberal judge' argument. The justices on the CSC were were ALL appointed by Republicans with a single exception. That's hardly a group of 'lefty judges'.

LOL. Keep your head in the sand then. This country has a long way to go as far as accepting gays. If you want to pretend the majority of American people back gay marriage, thats fine. But pretending that people who point this fact out are against gay marriage makes you look even more out there than usual.

 ad hominem attacks show how weak your argument is.

My point is still valid. These people have a fundemental right to mary. To remove this right is a violation of everything we stand for. It is no different than bringing back slavery. If people like you were around 150 years ago you would be fighting to keep the blacks in chains and as slaves.

That's the point.

It has nothing to do with "accepting".

Are you "accepting" blacks?

Discrimination is discrimination, it has no business in this country.

Real Americans will drive you haters out.

OK there little buddy 😉

If it were up to people like me, 8 would have gone 60-40 NO.

While maintaining my 98% disagreement raite with OCguy, I don't see anything wrong or objectionable in the original quoted text from him in this post.

I love lefty judges. They are the honest ones, the ones who look at the larger picture and defend principles good for society.

You do understand that this decision was led by *Republicans* -if you are calling them lefty meaning how they were legally correct and courageous, then fine.

This issue I happen to agree with the lefty judge. But normally, I am not for a judge striking down a vote of the people.[/quote]

Are you then opposed to the concept of constitutional rights that override the law as passed by a simple majority, as a block against tyrray of the majority?

If a law is truly against a state/federal constitution, than it will get kicked back anyway. I don't worry too much about amdendments like "8", or something similar becoming actual law.

But I do love the ability for the "people" to pass law through the prop system. That is why we have medical MJ.

If marriage is a religious term, then the government has no more business recognizing it than it does baptism. The government should see all "marriages" as some kind of civil unions and refer to them as such. If it's not a religious term, then the religious shouldn't give a rat's ass.

IMO, you are somewhat mixing up the issues of constitutional review, and ballot initiatives.

I like the ballot initiative concept, too - it was a progressive reform where California as usual led the antion, back in the Gov. Hiram Johnson a century ago. I just want to keep it a tool 'of the people' and minimize it being a way to sneak around the democratically elected legislature by special interests who want things against the public interest and can get them pushed through with nicely funded campaigns.

But I do think there's a place for sound constitutional limitations on what the simple majority can pass, whether through representatives or ballot initiatives.

Political power is a little like squeezing a baloon, you're always trying to keep the people being represented, whether through a legislature or ballot initiatives or whatever, and as soon as you latch on to one thing and say that's the way to do it, some way is found to corrupt that solution and you have to find another.

I think it would be more effective for a central non-profit organization to raise funds and provide them to parties that wish to take legal action against the CLDS on any number of issues. Effectively inundate the Church with scores of separate unrelated lawsuits across as many jurisdictions as possible.

The timing is good with the economic problems to bleed the fuckers dry in the courts.

The humor in the Mormon church getting it's panties all wadded up over gay marriage is that the equal protection clause in the constitution, if used to allow gay marriage (I'm in favor of gay marriage BTW) carried to it's logical progression, will allow polygamous marriage too (and I'm in favor of that also).

You don't worry because you don't care about rights that belong to others so long as that doesn't affect you. You are just indifferent and not too bright. Maybe one day you'll wake up when they come for you. Hope it won't be too late then.

Yeah, if it was worth protesting about, then it was probably worth getting people out to vote. They blew it. Now suck it up and wait till the next state vote to re-amend the state constitution.

Nice sentiment...I would have tried that with MLK too. Sorry Dr. King, but maybe you should just suck it up and try harder to get your civil rights next time

That's not to excuse the assholes who protest but didn't vote. That doesn't make the result any more "right", it just makes some of the people on the right side of the issue stupid too.

Maybe Californians shouldn't have a constitution that is so easy to amend.

Well I think we can agree on that, being able to amend the constitution is not supposed to be an easy process, but California seems to LOOOOVE the will of the people. If their constitution was like it is on the federal level, gay people would still have their rights. Oops.

But again, that's hardly the fault of the gay rights folks.

Hey Utah.....payback's a bitch. I hope Hollywood can get their collective asses together in boycotting Sun Dance and whatever other festivals they have in Utah. Send a message to them to not mess with our fucking state ever again.
