Ticketmaster is Blocking IPs

So I get a work E-mail stating that Tickmaster/livenation was causing 403 errors when people tried to buy tickets. I was like who give a shit don't buy tickets at work. They also posted a blog link about Ticketmaster Blocking IPs. The blog points out that if you live in an apartment building that have shared IPs some idiot could lock you out trying to buy tickets.

http://www.martinogawa.com/2012/02/ticketmaster-is-blocking-ips-403.html

"When you try and access the Ticketmaster.com website and receive the error message:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

If this occurs, it is likely that Ticketmaster.com has blocked your IP Address. This can happen since Ticketmaster the IP Address every time a user makes a request to buy tickets. The problem is that in many large Condo Buildings, the IP Address for the High Speed Internet Connection is shared. Therefore, if one user in the Condo Building makes too many Ticketmaster requests, the IP Address rather than just that registered users account is banned automatically by their system after 24 hours.

After this occurred to me, I tried calling Ticketmaster Customer Service at 800-653-8000. Of course the Rep was aware of the situation and was able to lookup my IP Address and tell me it was blocked for 24 hours. He said there was nothing that could be done, assuming that I was the one that was submitting numerous ticket requests to their system. I was thinking to myself, the idiot that did this must have been on their computer for 3 or more hours considering how long it takes to get past the Captcha characters. I told the Rep. The Rep told me there was nothing that could be done and he refused to escalate my request. He said I could send a letter to customer_support@ticketmaster.com.

Instead of sending the letter that probably wouldn't get responded to in the next week or so, I decided to send a Tweet to @Ticketmaster. After 3 hours, still no reply which was irritating, since I noticed they must have read the message. I followed it up with a second tweet, this time including the Ticketmaster CEO @nathanchubbard who as before been accused of blocking the IP of ticket brokers.

What I simply don't understand is with all that technology at Ticketmaster, why would you prevent your good customers from downloading their season tickets. Instead, why don't you find a better business process for addressing those that hit their site too many times for new tickets or different seats. Why don't you base your system on the registered account user and ban him or her rather than the entire IP Address?

If I were the professional Sports Teams, I wouldn't use Ticketmaster for managing the ticketing process. They should either build their own or ensure a more customer friendly system is in place so that there is 0% downtime for printing and accessing tickets. They certainly do not understand their customer."

Sounds pretty lame for the legit customer. Keep in mind it's pretty easy to automate the account creation process though. Plus there are services that can be used to bypass any captchas that appear. I thought a couple of guys got sued for using bots a while back though.

Probably someone with a bot constantly hammering the site to try and get a ticket purchase the moment it comes up. Then they resell the tickets on ebay / scalp them at the show for a profit.

Is this because people are buying up tickets to scalp?

It's because people are using shared internet and ticketmaster blocks IPs if you have multiple concurrent requests from the same IP (ie multiple computers hooked to one router)

did you read the blog? some Condo broadband internet connections are set up where the building is wired, you pay and the building shares an IP. i bet a lot of new condos in NYC also do this. point is that you can't switch because the building is wired for one provider

4g hotspot, or use the ticketmaster app, or move out of a shitty building with shitty internet.

Old news.

Ticketmaster blocks the computers at Kinko's, which sucks because they're rental computers for customer to use. But I guess they have some corporate gateway. Don't go to Kinko's.

I don't hate Ticket Master for what they do (designated tickets scalpers) but venues that use Ticket Master piss me off.

I'd be more pissed at paying a $16 inconvenience fee and the $4 handling (but I printed them on my own printer so what handling?) charges. So if I got IP blocked they're probably doing me a favor.

It's funny that everyone agrees TM is lame but nobody will boycott.

No tickets for you.
"Let me buy more tickets! Please!"
No tickets, 24 hours.
"WHARRRGARBLE!"

Any TM competitor is bound to be just as bad (if not worse) than TM

Examples:

LiveNation, Groovetickets

Livenation owns ticketmaster.

I boycott them. I have not bought a ticket from ticket master in 9 years. If I want something and can only get it though ticket master, I don't go.

I try to but some times it is the only way to get a ticket. I look for shows at The Palace Theatre first even though it is an hour drive from Pittsburgh to get there. I can buy directly from them. I like it even better because you can buy the seats with a pic of the venue itself and pick where you going to sit. I wish every place did it like this.

I never seen this done when I look for tickets it only gives me a way to pick best available. So does it depend on the venue for this to work?

Pretty sure it only comes into play after a week or two (ie concert not sold out).

I have only seen it for concerts with tickets still readily available (both livenation + ticketmaster)

So go to the starbucks/mcdonalds/etc 2 blocks from your house and buy tickets

Use your phone and just buy them via the 3g/4g cell network versus connected to your wifi

Seems like you are crying for no reason at all.

If you don't have a laptop or smartphone then you need to reevaluate the forum your posting your 1st world problems on
