Make sure you bring your receipt with date of purchase on it to back this story up. You think a judge is going to believe this without any proof? And 15mph is quite a bit for just new tires.

Simple, just tell the judge you use "paperless billing" :p

It may just be me, but I think the purpose of a speeding ticket is to teach you a lesson about speeding. Not about weaseling your way out of it. 70 in a 65 I could see fighting. 80 in a 65 and you should just pay up and be done with it.

Oh and uhh... nice avatar..

He paced my speed, so there was no gun involved..

However I think I read somewhere a while back about how a cop needs to pace you for a certain amount of time before he can "legally" determine your speed..

And ha, yeah the avatar is kind of ironic isn't it.

Someone posted a great trick to use in court against the "pacing." You ask him how he was able to determine your speed, he says he's trained to judge speed visually. Then you ask him to determine the speed of a quarter as you drop it. You of course know the speed by calculating the acceleration due to gravity beforehand (I think all the math is in the other thread.) Likely he'll say something like 4 miles an hour, but as I recall, it's nowhere close to that. If he says it takes time to judge, ask him how many times you need to drop the quarter.

heh NO jude is going to allow you to do something like this. Even if you found a drunk/stupid judge it really wouldnt matter if he couldnt tell you how fast it was going..

fighting this ticket is going to be really hard. 15mph hour OVER is a really bad. You can try all the BS about calabration/trianing/spedo etc but 15MPH over is what is going to do it. I would go in and try to get it reduced and court supervision.

perhaps you should consider deferred adjudication.
if you can take that then you can basically ignore the ticket.
definitely take it if you can.
even if you can't, can you get a defensive driving dismisal?
regardless, you're out some cash.

Sounds about right

The owner is supposed to ensure the proper maintenance of the car. If he changed the tire size, wouldn't he be irresponsible by not recalibrating the speedo?

Great idea . . . If it were the officer determining the speed. But it's the officer's speedometer that was showing the violator's speed.

So this is the third ticket you got for speeding, maybe you should consider slowing down to avoid the tickets altogether instead of coming up with new and creative ways to fight them? Just a thought

for christ sake, think about what you're posting. smaller tires would make his speedometer read FAST, not slow.

I'll be happy to - as soon as they disconnect the # of tickets I get from the obscenely high cost of insurance I pay.

I have been in 1 at-fault accident (fender-bender, woman in front of me in a car 15 years newer than mine slammed on her brakes and came to a complete stop on the interstate) in 12 years of driving, and my yearly insurance bill covered the damage from that accident. (the accident, btw, did not raise my rates significantly)

I have paid over $30,000 in car insurance so far, and any time I have a ticket on my record they are sure to up my premium and cite that as the reason. (on average I've probably gotten a ticket once every 3 years)

I would happily hand over $200 every time I get caught speeding, if they would decouple simple speeding tickets from an insurance co's ability to raise my rates.

In the meantime, I know dozens of people who just pay $79 to the nearest ticket lawer, the state loses their revenue, and the ticket never shows up on their insurance.

why would they do that? if you have speeding tickets, you are clearly a bigger risk to them to insure.

Agree totally!
Screw the state! They are supposed to ensure that you do not endanger yourself and others when driving.
If you don't do that, they should not give you a ticket, bastards!

Yea he'd need bigger tires

I thought this thread was about stupid ideas to get out of a ticket :)

Easiest way to get out of a ticket is to contest it, go to court, and hope the cop doesn't show.

I tried that once.... according to the judge, it doesnt have to be calibrated accurately... it only has to have a recent certification that is was calibrated accurately. He said the court did not care if it was accurate or not, as long as they had the certification papers, they would not ask for any tests.

Cost me $120.00
