Ticket I got last night.

So on my way to my friends house to watch the game last night, I come to a stop at a traffic light. It's a two lane going into a one lane road.

I'm actually stopped at the light and the light turns green so I put the pedal to the floor. There is a car passing me on the right and I let him get in front of me.

Anyway right before I had to take a left into a side road, this is about a mile down the road, I see cop lights behind me. I pull over thinking that he just has to pass by but then he stoped behind me. I'm thinking to my self wtf? I didn't do anything wrong. Hell I didn't even exceed the speed limit! He comes up to the car and was like do you know why I pulled you over? I said no officer I don't.

He said "Because you were playing chicken with that car back there at the light."

Now at this point I'm thinking to my self, I was playing chicken? All I did was accelerate and there is no law against that. I didn't even spin my wheels out or anything.

Anyway he goes back to his car and comes back eventually with a ticket for:

1) 90/16 Loud Exhaust - $50
2) 89/2 Improper Passing - $100

The first thing is my exahaust isn't really that loud. My intake is far louder than my exhaust. So even if they do pull out a dB meter I won't be over the limit.

And the second thing is I didn't pass anyone! so if I appeal this ticket do you think I will be able to get out of it?

So why did you put the pedal to the floor if you were not messing around with the guy in the other car next to you?

young kid
modified exhaust

officer's word vs yours

you probably won't win if you contest it but if your lucky the judge will knock some off the fine or let you do community service instead.

But he gave me a ticket for something I didn't do. I didn't pass anyone. That other guy passed me on the right.

I'm 21. I have a perfectly clean record till now. Never been pulled over, never got a speeding ticket. I've had my lisence for like 5 years now.

And what do your witnesses have to say about this?

Welcome to the wonderful world of hating cops.

it doesn't matter man. life isn't always fair. especially when dealing with the po-po. its all about revenue.

Was it dark enough that he might not have been able to distinguish between the two vehicles? In other words, was he just looking at taillights? If so, definitely fight it, especially if the vehicle next to you was in any way similar to yours (compact car vs compact car, pickup vs pickup, etc).

Yeah, I had the improper passing bullsh!t half a year ago.

I think the improper passing is the "pull over" for the cop to pass.
Apparently it's against the law to let a cop car that's been tailgating you to pass.

I wasn't there but have a good idea what happened.

light changes, you mash the pedal to the floor, other car happens to be beside you.

Both hamsters sing in unison, sounding much like a redneck after eating chili all day long, farting down the road.

Cop hears YET ANOTHER RICER and decides he cant take it and pulls you over.

I would have given you the ticket for being loud and one for reckless endangerment and one for excessive display of speed, but thats just me. Oh, and I would have towed your car because its noise pollution.

Ah....the curse of the fartpipe. Get over it. If you are going to have a loud rollerskate then the cops are going to pick on you. The exhaust makes it sound like you are going faster than you are so you get busted. Pretty simple. You actually have better luck with real cars because at least cops respect those.

I don't have a witness... I was alone in the car.

Yep. They've got their quotas to reach.

No that isn't what happened. The other car on my right was already moving, so I wasn't racing him. I didn't see him coming till he was passing me.

I agree. Face it OP, cops have always disliked young guys in whatever cars were desirable in their day. In mine it was Camaros and Mustangs jacked up in the back with Cragar wheels and loud V8 exhausts. Even though I had one (not a ricer, but still the boy racer car of the 70's) back then, seeing some kid in his Civic and fart can irritates me.

You won't win unless you get a 15 year old judge.

If these tickets will raise your insurance rates then I suggest taking it to court but hire a lawyer. Not just any lawyer , look for one who specializes in traffic tickets and one who has a good reputation.

I paid a well known traffic ticket lawyer $500 and he got a 105mph ticket thrown out for me.

Another lawyer wanted $700 and she brazenly told me that she had NEVER lost a court case in this particular court...come to find out she was telling the truth. 🙂

Anyways it was a dumb move on my part and it cost me $500 on the short term but I saved hundreds if not thousands over the long term.

Besides, the ticket itself was $260 so I came way out on top.

slag, stab yourself with a rusty icepick. In the eye.

I accelerate fast all the time. My car is not very fast, its not like I'm peeling out in a Viper, its a Galant. If I accelerate fast, from the left lane, and someone from the right lane accelerates faster , why the hell would I get the ticket and not him??

Its BS, I say fight it, but I don't know that you can win. Worst that can happen is you lose and pay the menial court fees.

OK, no witnesses, I'm sure you have a dash cam for proof, right?

If you didn't figure it out, you have no evidence on the passing ticket. The cop might have a dash cam, you could get it, and see if it shows anything. The loud exhaust might be fightable, but again, your going to have to prove it.
