Ticket for tag expired

I got a ticket last week while I was parked in a parking garage on the 3rd floor. After dinner and a movie I came back to my car and saw I had a ticket and noticed it was $30 for not having my tag renewed. Well the ticket was from the parking garage security guard, not a real police officer, and the thing is I had my registration renewed that day online I was just waiting on the sticker. Every year I forget to renew my tag, this year I remember 2 months after my birthday and I even had cops behind me at redlights before I renewed it, and then the day I renew it, I get a ticket from a cop wanna be, how ironic.

Last I checked security officers are not cops, and cannot ticket you or do squat to you for such things. Bring the ticket, and the printout from your online registration to a REAL police station, show it to them, enjoy the laughs that follow.

It was a ticket on a printed piece of paper wrapped in a bright orange envelope......last time a real police officer wrote me a ticket it was carbon paper and it was yellow. I am also assuming it was the security guard since they drive around the garage with there thumb up there a$$. Also the real police have more to deal with in downtown ybor.

I just called and the lady said they can void it, once i send in a copy of my registration but just this one time.

That's pretty damn arrogant

WTFEver! The next time this same exact situation happens they have no choice but to void it. The last time I checked they do not have full police authority. Rental Cops

Huh? Unless they are sworn peace officers or meter maids (by whatever terminology you wish to use) they have no legal authority to issue any kind of ticket that carries any legal weight. IF it's not issued by the city, county, or state, tell them to fvck-off...

umm...just this one time....yeah right. if you have paid your registration and the DMV has received it they can't do sh!t. most cops will give a grace period of a month or two of expiration because they know the DMV is slow in sending out new tags..

Only other thing I can think of is that it was done by the DMV themselves, in VT the DMV actually drives around in marked SUVs looking for various violations, like tags and plates and inspections and whatnot. They also help out with seatbelt checkpoints and stuff, perhaps they were bored and checking tags?

not quite true.

private parking lots can issue tickets if the city allows it. However, those tickets are only for unpaid parking (basically trespass). They can't issue tickets for expired plates, safety violations or any other such nonsense.

personally I would have just ripped it up infront of them and warn them not to repeat that kind of crap.

It sucks because they issued it while I was in the movies or dinner so I could not even argue it.
