Ticket for expired tags: can they do this?

Any idea what time the ticket was issued?

The local police pulled a similar stunt a few years ago just before Xmas time - at around 3am in the morning, they drove around the neighborhood purposely looking to give out parking tickets [I was parked the wrong way on a 2 way street - had been for nearly 10 years. The police officer next door also parks in the same manner yet didn't receive a ticket].

Sounds to me like the officer was trying to make bank for the local city by purposely looking for expired tags, parking violations, etc.

The cops care more about the money anyway. If you're caught speeding and they're in in a good mood, they'll only cite you for obstructing traffic. Again, no points, but you'll still have to pay the fine ($100-$150).

Here in Wisconsin (specifically Milwaukee) they do something similar. You have to go in to court, and they give you three options. First is to plead innocent and try to fight it (I think they will then assign a separate court date). Second is to plead guilty and pay the fine and get the points (maybe removed with traffic school). Third is to plead guilty to some lesser charge, and pay a GREATER fine, but don't incur any points.

Is this something like a parking ticket or something like a traffic ticket? What state is this in? That is a no-can-do in NH...

If she does call and gets it tossed, make sure she gets something in writing. Alternatively, fight it and bring proof of registration (would be nice if the postmark on the envelope pre-dates the ticket, too.. 😀).

Jlee, I forgot you were a cop in NH. If you happen to see a toyota corolla going 90+ MPH on 101E in the mornings, please don't spoil my morning by stopping me on my commute into work.

That said, I'll keep a donut in the car just in case you are hungry. 🙂

OP: In MA, the cops are apparently allowed to ticket cars parked in a public parking garage (even if it is under a residential building), as that happened to me and I was not let off when I challeneged the ticket.
