wtf? i can't believe i actually got a ticket for 75mph on the highway! i could understand under rainy conditions etc, but these were completely normal. I didn't think ticketing would start until at least 80. and to top it off, it wasn't even a consistent 75, the cop paced me as I passed a huge semi truck (don't want rocks being flung up on my car).

i'm thinking it's profiling since i was driving my girlfriend's CRX which isn't blinged out by any means, but it has nice red paint that has just been detailed, and also her muffler is non-existant (actually quieter than most of those nasty fart cans, because it is only 1.5L), we cannot seem to buy the exhaust that we want, it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth btw.

bleh

And now i guess i will have to go to court to request school because i have already went to school... 11 months ago! I really should have fought it when I was hit by a guy cutting around traffic and speeding down a turn lane instead of just paying the ticket... but didn't really have the time.

bleh again

on the highways that are 65mph limit, they're a lot more strict.

then lets say a 55mph high way.

I pass cops going 80-85 on a 55mph under normal condition, they don't even bother as everyone else is doing the same.

65mph, my father got pulled over for only going like 5mph over because he was trying to pass an 18 wheeler.

75 is harsh... but it's still a ticket. My dad always told me to go 70, but 80 in the left lane is about the flow of safe traffic here in NorCal.

So yeah that sucks, but don't be surprised when people start saying "omg you = t3h sux pay the ticket sp33der"

edit: to clarify, the drivers ed class was run by the local police department

Don't know what the limit is in Florida, but it's 70 in TN so that ticket would probably get thrown out.

In VA, anything above 80 is reckless driving. So that's definitely not a good place to start handing out tickets.

since radar hits the larger objects, drafting a trailer will help hide your car ( and increase MPG)

and piss off the truck driver, if you're drafting close enough to actually make a difference in mileage.

to the OP: This thread is useless without the speed limit you were breaking. 5 over? You have bad luck. 10 over? Moderate bad luck, but if you were the only car on the road it was to be expected. Anything over 10 over, you should have been expecting it.

I got a ticket for doing 72 in a 65 (along with a huge pack of other cars). I wouldn't doubt I was "profiled" as well because I was in Ohio with NJ plates. The law's the law, I broke it and I paid for it (cost me a heck of a lot more than the $95 for the ticket too).

I got a 75 in a 65 on an Interstate Highway... I think that is the number they choose that you can't battle.

And why the hell do you need to hide from radar if your going to go the same speed as a semi?

He did not break the law, he sped, big difference, there are no criminal punishments for doing 5 over. Oh and for the record, FHP has stated that 5 over is not enforceable. Just take it to the judge and say "Don't you think it could just be the difference between my speedometer and his radar gun?" That is unless you talked him down from 80-85 or something. Chances are the cop will probably be there (despite what people think)

heh, for the most part that's true, but once I was in a crowd of semis that were going 70-75 in a 40MPH construction zone.

A fine is not a criminal punishment? And if there is no law against speeding, how can they force you to pay the fine?

Only the most anal cop will pull you over for going 5 MPH above posted limits, and that will fall apart in court quickly.

5-10 is questionable, but these usually stick, especially if you were leading the pack or passing someone else doing the posted speed.

10+, j00 R fuXXored. Pay up.

I've never been pulled over myself... I'm perfectly content to hit the cruise control at 65 and chill while on a highway. Record thus far is 36 MPG.
