You can buy the tickets at the gate instead. Of course they usually charge a fee also so it doesn't really matter.

nobody is forcing you to use it.

If they charge that much, and people still use em, I say more power to em.

No way! One of the best concerts I ever went to was only $14. Some fairly big name bands hit small venues and don't charge a ton of $$.

It's Chevelle/30 Seconds to Mars. And no, it may not sell out, but shows at this particular venue (Murat Egyptian Room in Indianpolis) frequently do. I could drive the hour to the venue to get a ticket instead of going through ticketmaster, but it's not worth it.

buy tickets at the venue in advance. I usually get tickets the day the go on sale at the venue and save a ton by not paying ticket master.

Buying tickets at the gate isn't always an option. If you want decent seats, the only way to get them 99% of the time is through TM. Tickets that usually cost $50 will cost $70 after TM "Convenience" charges. :disgust:

That's Ticket Bastard for you. And a $12 concert sounds like a lot to me, most the ones I go to are between 5-10 bucks depending on the venue. Just because it's more expensive doesn't make it better.

Yah, Ticketmaster is like a monopoly. Buying tickets at the gate is a pretty big risk, I think, especially if its a large group. The whole evening would be ruined if it didn't pan o ut...

Hehe, this thread reminded me of the Simpsons, (well, what doesn't?), where Mr. Burns says to Smithers "And you said no one would pay a 100% service charge..." or something to that effect.

The funny thing is that if TM charges $20 in fees on a $30 ticket, people complain, but if the same ticket would be $50 with no fees, not many would have a problem with that.

Ha! I was going to start a thread complaining about TM too!

It is the biggest scam. It is legalized ticket scalping. I bought some $25 tix for Sesame Street Live and they charged $11 on top of that. WTF? When I go to the MSG website to try and buy tix, it redirects me to TM. It's total BS!

Edit: And they wanted to charge me $1.75/ticket to have me print it out on my own printer! What kind of BS is that?

I saw Chevelle a couple weeks ago when they were still touring with TRUSTcompany. The venue I saw them at sold out before the show started. People that were waiting at the door didn't get in at all unless they had bought a ticket in advance. Or so I'm told, anyway.

how does TM get so many tickets? do they have a contract with the shows, or do they hire some bum to line up overnight and hoard the tix?

Unfortunately, some events will have the tickets available online on Ticket Master's website before they're available at the venue, so this isn't always a possibility if you want good seats.
