Tiananmen Square

I have a new job that has many Chinese students that stop by. Long story short on girl from China claimed Tiananmen Square square protests were a joke news story kind of like how the Onion posts fake news stories.
Was she crazy or is this a normal response from someone who grew up in China who is now in their early 20's?

It depends. Chinese who never plan on going back generally have no problem talking about the massacre. Those who plan on going back to China never talk about it.

When I was in China everyone laughed at me how excited I was to go to the square. They couldn't understand my enthusiasm at all.

And when I was there I saw NOTHING to commemorate what happened other than a military person who I assume had the job of giving dirty looks to dumb Americans who take pictures of the area.

There was a lot of stuff in China that they wouldn't face directly though. Like none of the Chinese would admit to the smog in Beijing. They insisted it was mist.

Yeah that massacre is just a hoax.

But don't forget to try and snap some photos of Chinese Bigfoot in the area if you go there

you know? what do we know? it COULD BE just propoganda aimed at US. a story told by OUR government to keep US in line... ???

maybe?

there's alot of little things like that i've figured out to be just that, over the years.

we also hear you'll die if you go to Russia, and everyone's starving and living in boxes in China...

Yet we give them all our money, but fuck Cuba and DPRK because... reasons...

set up a TV and play the videos of the tanks rolling through the square and the mass of people fleeing on replay.

Leave it on and don't even say anything about it and go about your day like normal.

Funny you say this think back at it she made that statement then followed up with an uncomfortable laugh. I should have said we have Kent State

Commie china government blocked all references/materials about Tiananmen Square protest. Most of young chinese do not know anything about that, such as "tank man".

It is called "afraid of losing face". They brag about how great china is but when outsiders pointed out the smog and extreme pollution in the air, water, and land in china and other problems, chinese would ignore it or say "western propaganda".

For example, when I shown them this = http://www.chinahush.com/2009/10/21/amazing-pictures-pollution-in-china/

they would say those pictures were faked from Western sources. I replied that those pictures were taken by chinese photographers, then they said those pictures were photoshopped and not real. LOL. True story.
