TI needs to come out with a new calculator

so u just plug in a formula and BAM..u get the outputs? ro can you actually draw the circuit in the calc?

so where do you go about getting all these programs for the ti-89. i am an ee also, and would like something that would make any of: fourier series, circuits, differential equations, etc easier. (i just purchased an 89 online haven't gotten it yet so i'm not familiar at all with it.) i currently have a hp 48g, and i can't seem to do infinite series and stuff with it so i just thought of gettin an 89 since using it is much easier.

basically instead of writing things like (1+3)*4
you write

1 3 + 4 *

when you get used to it it makes entering expression easier

eg if you hav something like
((3+2)*(2/3)+3)/((2+2)*2)

you just enter it like

3 2 + 2 3 / * 3 + 2 2 + 2 * /

the order is the same as if you were doing it by hand so it much more natural and the lack of brackets make it faster to entire

That seem impossible to read. I hope it has pretty print or something. how would you call a function like if I wanted the log of 7 do I type 7 log? I would like a calculator that had more powerful programming langage then TI basic like scheme or some other interperted langage that is good for math.

it doesn't matter if it's easier to read or not, the point is it's faster & more natural for entry

i'm not sure about the log but it's probably still log(x) b/c rpn just replaces bracket/add/sub/multiply/division i think

hehe, and i was excited when i found out the 89 could do triple integrals... guess i got a year or two to go before i get to the real fun. but yeah, the 89 is slow..currently i'm borrowing my friends with version 1.0 hardware, there are 2.0 hardware versions out there now..are they any better?

I'd like a super calculator as well. Beyond PDEs, Fourier analysis, expansions, etc...some physics programs would be nice!

(eg: inputing the lagrangian & conditions and have the calculator spit out the equations of motion)

Yes.

I think you all are a bunch of whiners. I do ODEs and some PDEs by hand all the time. Just did a ton of them for my dynamic systems homework earlier tonight. And when I don't do them by hand I much prefer using SIMULINK.

Oh also I worked out that equation you gave in about two seconds (both of those were spent entering the equation) with Derive (is a program that is basically identical to the TI-89, you can find it at TI's webpage). So the difficultly is user error not a weak calculator.

(BTW: I am a ME and I it when people whine about their calculator not doing everything for them. My TI-86 does everything I really need, and if I really felt like it I could do it all by hand)

yep, the 49g has pretty print (after you enter it). also has a kickass equation editor.

to do the log of 7, you hit:
7 log

everything is in RPN.
