TI had always had a well funded analog product portfolio.
When they needed to enhance it , they did bought Burr Brown.
The current take over has more to do with critical mass needs
to reduce the productions costs and be a bigger actor on an
extremely competitive market.
If it was to enhance the analog capabilities, well, buying Linear
Technology or Analog Devices would have been way cheaper.
Also, analog circuit design is difficult and non trivial.
Just think that for many embeded circuits that have
a digital and an analog part, the latter, despite being
often less than 10% of the circuit size, mandate 90%
of the design efforts.
