To all parents of high school kids, this is a fantastic deal. Best price I have seen this calculator in the last five years or so. Course I just bought one at Staples last week.

PS: Staples is advertising a $5 rebate and Best Buy a $10 one. I don't know if these are store specific or not.

Office max has it for $97 minus a $10 MIR as well. The rebate is store specific.

Great price on a great calculator. The original TI 83 got me through high school Calculus and college Physics!

Should be able to get it down to 59.99 at Office Depot by price matching and
using the $10 off $50 printable coupon that is floating around.

PS. I bought one last week at Office Depot when they had a $5 coupon.

Damnit, I just bought one from Amazon for $85 to replace the one from high school I lost.

Is it better to buy a palm (e.g. like the one in office depot for $30 after rebate a few weeks ago) and then buy an advanced software calculator available for $20 or so and you get a better device to play around?

I still have my TI-85 from Freshman year of High School.. used it all thru HS and college and I still use it today. Lets see ... looks like I bought this in 91'.... 11 years and it's still the best calculator I've ever used.

for science and engineering students, i'd go with the TI-85 to TI-89...the 83 is a little weak compared to those two

i 3rd that, but you gotta remember that some teachers won't allow 85 and up... for that matter, if those aren't allowed, i'm pretty sure the 83 wouldn't be allowed either.. so it's best to make sure beforehand

thanks ironring. DukeFan21, how can I show that CircuitCity is giving away the connectivity kit? I was plannining to go to JandR later today to pickup an Apex1500 for a friend. It just happens that my daughter lost her calc. Funny how she forgot to tell me until last week. If CircuitCity is giving the kit w/TI83 maybe I can get J&R to do the same with a pricematch!

I believe the connectivity kit is generally priced at $15 (at least it is at OD) minus the TI $15 rebate you can find by going here.

The TI-83+ has advanced statistics functions that AP stat classes in high school require, but it is definitely a bit weak for higher level college math/engineering/science. Last semester, I had a heck of a time in my circuits class when I needed to use complex matrices, which is only supported in the TI-85 and higher. I ended up borrowing my roommate's TI-89 for the tests.

Most people probably won't need this function, so the 83+ should be fine. I just got tired of solving down systems of 4-7 simultaneous equations using Cramer's rule.

My algebra course says they require a ti 82 or ti 83 ... would a ti 85 work? my friend has an 85 I can borrow for this semester... will it do everything an 82 or 83 will?

The TI-89 is a life saver for Calculus and Egineering classes. It will solve calculations in exact form and give you answers like sqrt(2)/3. However, it does help a lot for me because I use it for homework and what not and it will find the answer and I can check my work without the need to buy the answer book. Depends what your major is. The downside is most profs know what they are doing and will not allow upper calculators on tests/quizes and such. And if you have some really hard profs like mine you're only allowed to use a Scientific calculator.

It looks to me like both the store specific TI83+ rebate (Staples in my case) and the free connectivity kit rebate both require an original barcode. Anyone investigated whether you can get both?
