Ouch! That bites, and I will watch out for, and avoid, this update. It would be nice if they'd only make updates like this visible to users with hardware that supports them - no point in bricking your machine (even temporarily) to install support for hardware you don't have and can't add.

It's explicitly labeled Thunderbolt and only appears on Thunderbolt'ed Macs. My 2009 MBP didn't have the update.

You're good to go if you dont have thunderbolt.
 
How ironic, I made the same discovery last night, did the update and it bricked my iMac as well. I was getting ready to reinstall anyway so didn't really care but that's not good for an official Mac update.
