Thunderbird 900 @ 933

I was wondering if this would be a feasible setup:

Taking a T-Bird 900 (9x100, 4:3 133 mem) and overclocking it to 933 (7x133 3:3 133 mem).

Would the performance even be worth the trouble of making the modifications? Always thought an TBird with 133 bus would be nice. Any input would be appreciated!

Seeing as you've shown the memory bus to be at 133MHz in both scenarios & the tiny increase in cpu clock speed ,this would only be worth it if it can be done in the bios.

Sorry, but this is not going to work. You have ZERO chance of running a TBIRD at 133 FSB. The EV6 bus is not Overclocking friendly. 115 maybe, 118 is likely the tops. (remember that the EV6 is double pumped so the actual bus speed will be 266 !!).

You've got hold of the wrong end of the stick ,133MHz was refering to the MEMORY bus not the FSB 🙂 ,they are seperate things on KX/KT 133 boards

933 (7x133 3:3 133 mem) thats the fsb aint it? 🙂
And just like DaddyG, theres no way in hell you can run an athlon chipset at 133mhz.

That is such a bold overclock. Just get it running at 1 ghz at a 100 mhz bus and then run the ram at 4:3. Then you'll pretty much get the same thing. Running at a 133 mhz CPU bus isn't that advantageous.

The only flaw in his 133fsb is that the AGP runs wild at 89mHz, and the PCI runs at 44.3mHz! 133fsb is totally feasible in the Thunderbirds; the PCI and AGP will be what holds you back.

yup, 133Mhz FSB is not feasible at all. I'm glad to be in the position to go up to 119Mhz FSB with my Irongate setup. Thats damn fast for that! Remember that it's double pumped, it results in 240Mhz!

I checked out your link ,something is not right with his system ,those memory benchmarks are appalling for 133MHz memory bus.
An Athlon system I built recently achieved theses scores with an Abit KA7 ,PC133 RAM @ CAS2 @ 133MHz ,Athlon 700 cpu on Sisoftsandra Millenium.
ALU 398 MB/s
FPU 433 MB/s

Maybe he had to slow down the L2 cache speed?

Your statement is a little confusing ,I take it you meant that the 133FSB would be feasible if the PCI bus wasn't at 44MHz?

Sorry, I remembered seeing this at amdzone and just did a quick search and brought it up. I should've looked at it better. The numbers do appear messed up. The only explaination I can think of is a early bios version or it's bs. I also remember something that the via chipsets have poor memory performance, but those numbers are VERY poor hehe.

The board was modified and I didn't catch that at first. So like you guys said before if the pci wasn't at 44 and agp at 89 it would be feasible.

My mistake 😱
