Thunderbird 3.0 Released!

WTF is please enter the master password for the security device?

ive tried every single password ive ever used and yea it keeps asking

Is it a seamless upgrade from 2.0? What about Lightning?

I don't know about Lightning, but otherwise it's seamless. Most of my themes broke, and that may be the case for many extensions, although I'd expect Lightning to be on top of things.

I'm still trying to get used to it. I've been looking at the same basic interface for years now, and this update really shook things up. I'll have to play with it awhile to really tell what I think of it.

It is seamless for me. Lightning didn't work at first but i got one of the nightly builds and then it was fine. let me know if you can't find that addon....
It's working well so far for me! the Search function is WAY better and MUCH faster!! love it!!

Ok, I'm getting a little more used to it, and I think I like it. The tabs are cool. It's a minor convenience, but nice.

WOW ! When did this happen ?!? 😱 I didn't even realize it was ready yet. (And after following on/off about it's beta too)

Wasn't there any advertising or announcement for this? Like the last firefox release ? How come I missed it ?

Does anyone know if we can just download the new version and install? My auto updater on Thunderbird 2.0.23 isn't recognizing the Thunderbird 3 release.

-Kevin

not sure, it just came out a couple of days ago and i saw the news on a PC news site.

I was running TB 2.x, just fine and then I decided to upgrade to TB 3.

Now TB 3 is not working at all...Well it does start up but I cannot get my mail.
I cannot even create a new account.

Any help?

Any way to DL TB 2.x?

Warning on this upgrade:

If you are running Kaspersky 2010, it will appear as though all of your emails are deleted. Everything is gone. The fix is to uninstall TB 3, then delete the Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird folder, then re-install TB 3. Emails will magically reappear once you open TB 3.

superb...downloading right now!!!

WT: I don't understand, so is this a KAV issue or TB related? Now i am scared to install it...

3.0 is a considerable leap to be closer to outlook. I think it is very comparable, especially if you aren't on an exchange environment. i switched at home from outlook to thunderbird years ago and haven't looked back. The only major thing i've found is that it doesn't have a built in calendar, but the lightning addon fixed that issue.

Never used Thunderbird - How do people feel it compares to Outlook 2007?

I use gmail as my primary email and think it's very powerful/convenient/useful. Is there any reason I would want to switch to thunderbird?

I like being able to view my mail offline, and not take the time to log into my Gmail account. It's not a tremendous amount of time, but it's 1 less small annoyance to deal with.

I also like offline viewing ability and Also, in the small chance something happens to online webmail, i will have a backup copy of most of my email on my pc.

There's an offline version of gmail. And autologin?

Um, you can just set up TB to work with Gmail like any other email account. If that is what you're wondering...

I have my gmail and 3 other email accounts set up on TB. I love it. Open it up and all accounts are immediately checked and email downloaded.

i know but i prefer to use thunderbird with pop gmail.

Well, I mean I'm asking why people like Thunderbird.

Gmail is pretty powerful, pulls and pops from other email accounts, and has an offline mode (though it's a little hidden, under the google labs stuff) that allows it to download messages and be used offline.
I guess if you don't use gmail, thunderbird would be nice, but I move to different computers a lot, and it seems easier to keep my stuff synchronized with cloud services than it would be with something like thunderbird.

Then again, I haven't really used an offline email client in forever. I used to use outlook express, and I think I even used one of the earlier versions of thunderbird, but the various free web emails never really played well with email clients so that forced me onto yahoo and hotmail's sites. Then gmail came around and somehow managed to stuff a pretty good email client into a web site.
